Q: What's up with Jeeps and rubber ducks? I've seen some with several of them on their dashes?It’s called “Jeep Ducking” or simply “Ducking.”
The idea started around 2020, when a Jeep owner named Allison Parliament began leaving small rubber ducks on other Jeep Wranglers as a friendly gesture. The practice spread rapidly through the Jeep community.
Here’s how it works:
π¦ You buy some rubber ducks — often little yellow bath ducks, but people get incredibly creative with themed ducks.
π You spot another Jeep, usually a Wrangler, that you think looks cool.
π¦ You place the duck somewhere visible, commonly on the driver's-side door handle, hood, or windshield.
πΈ The owner finds it and may photograph the duck and post it online, often using #DuckDuckJeep.
π Some people collect the ducks, while others pass them along to another Jeep.
There are even ducks customized to match the Jeep—Star Wars ducks, Halloween ducks, Canadian-themed ducks, firefighter ducks, pirate ducks, etc. π¨π¦π¦
There’s also a related Jeep tradition called the “Jeep Wave.” Jeep drivers often give each other a little wave when passing on the road. The exact rules aren't universal—some people insist on a two-finger wave, others just raise a hand—but the basic idea is “Hey, fellow Jeep person!”
So the combination of Jeep Wave + Jeep Ducking has essentially created a little social culture around owning a Jeep.
And there's a funny distinction: Ducking is generally meant to be friendly, not vandalism. You're supposed to leave the duck somewhere where it won't interfere with driving, and ideally don't put anything that could damage the vehicle.
