Speaking about my AIO, How much RAM is necessary these days?

Installed RAM module

The amount of RAM (Random Access Memory) you need in a computer depends on your specific use case and the applications you plan to run. However, here are some general guidelines:

  1. For basic tasks such as web browsing, email, and word processing, 4GB to 8GB of RAM is typically sufficient. This amount of RAM should allow you to run these applications smoothly and without any issues.

  2. For more demanding tasks such as photo or video editing, gaming, or running multiple applications at the same time, 8GB to 16GB of RAM is recommended. This amount of RAM will ensure that your computer can handle these tasks efficiently without slowing down or crashing.

  3. For professional use cases such as 3D modeling, video rendering, or scientific simulations, you may need 32GB or more of RAM. These applications require a lot of processing power and memory to run smoothly and efficiently.

It's worth noting that having more RAM than you need won't necessarily improve your computer's performance. Once you have enough RAM to run your applications smoothly, additional RAM won't make a noticeable difference.

In summary, 4GB to 8GB of RAM is typically sufficient for basic tasks, 8GB to 16GB of RAM is recommended for more demanding tasks, and 32GB or more of RAM may be necessary for professional use cases. The Wizard has 16GB RAM installed and I find that more than enough for my computing tasks.

How does one go about cleaning up their RAM? Would doing so be helpful for an iMac that’s 10 years old?

if you mean physical cleaning, not likely. If you mean like clearing the RAM,, that may temporarily give more performance. As far as upgrading RAM, as long as its not soldered in, you can likely add RAM to your iMAC
