Takei's Take debuts today with gay star looking at Google Glass

At 76, George Takei continues to try new things.
The openly gay Star Trek icon launched a new web series today (17 September) called Takei's Take in which he explores the world of technology, trends, current events and pop culture.
Although he made a name for himself on television, Takei has found himself a huge web presence in recent years with more than 800,000 Twitter followers and 4.5 million Facebook fans.
'The future is coming whether we like it or not,' he says on the debut episode. 'I can't stop it. I can only adapt.'
Takei has young tech experts on to discuss new products but it is his trademark wit that makes it all worth watching.
For example, he remarks that search giant Google's 'real goal is world domination' and takes a few jabs at former co-star William Shatner with whom he has famously feuded.
The first webisode of his online venture takes a look at Google Glass, a wearable computer with an optical head-mounted display.
'In my day, $1,500 could almost buy you a limited edition Star Trek lunch pail, Sulu edition,' he says when discussing the price of the gadget for those able to 'get their mitts on one.'
The real fun comes in watching Takei try on a pair of the glasses for himself and accidentally taking a photo of his hand. This leads him to conclude that the gadget will result in 'the stupidest Instagram picture you'll take this year.'
The twice-monthly series is produced by AARP and can be seen on YouTube.
