Environmental Exposures: Some researchers suggest that exposure to environmental factors, such as air pollution, industrial chemicals, and pesticides, may play a role in the development of colorectal cancer. However, more research is needed to understand the specific mechanisms involved.
Changes in Gut Microbiota: Alterations in the gut microbiota, the diverse community of microorganisms that inhabit the digestive tract, have been linked to colorectal cancer. Factors such as antibiotic use, diet, and lifestyle may influence the composition of the gut microbiota and contribute to cancer development.
Screening Guidelines: Changes in screening guidelines may also be contributing to the observed increase in colorectal cancer among young people. While routine screening for colorectal cancer is recommended for adults aged 50 and older, recent studies suggest that early-onset colorectal cancer may be missed in younger individuals who are not routinely screened.
