Levitating Stones

Levitating stones

It's just nature amusing us with truly peculiar images captured on Lake Baikal, in Russia.

It appears as though the stones are levitating on the waters.

This occurs when the lake is covered by a thick layer of ice, and this phenomenon even has a name: Baikal Zen.

The stones are first pushed onto the frozen surface of the lake by strong winds and then heated by sunlight that melts the ice underneath.

The part under the stone, less exposed to solar rays, remains frozen, creating the illusion of these levitating pebbles.
