BOINC

BOINC

BOINC stands for Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing. It is an open-source software platform that enables volunteers to contribute their unused computer processing power to scientific research projects. BOINC was developed at the University of California, Berkeley, and is used by a variety of scientific organizations and research projects around the world.

To participate in BOINC, you first need to download and install the BOINC software on your computer. Once installed, you can choose which scientific projects you would like to contribute your computer's processing power to. These projects can include fields such as astronomy, biology, physics, and more.

BOINC is designed to run in the background on your computer and will automatically use any unused processing power to contribute to the chosen scientific projects. You can choose how much processing power you would like to allocate to BOINC, and you can also pause or stop the program at any time.

Participating in BOINC is a great way to support scientific research and contribute to important projects that may help to advance our understanding of the world around us.

To get started with BOINC, you can visit the official website at:

https://boinc.berkeley.edu/

From there, you can download the BOINC software and choose which scientific projects you would like to contribute your computer's processing power to. The BOINC website also provides detailed instructions and resources to help you get started and learn more about the program.

The Wizard has participated in BOINC since around 2000. I participate in 7 projects from helping find a cure for AIDS (World Community Grid) to the now suspended Seti@home (Can't wait till that project resumes!)
