A short story
It was an old mansion on the outskirts of town, surrounded by tall trees and overgrown vines. No one had lived there for years, and the house had fallen into disrepair. But it wasn't just the neglect that kept people away - there were rumors that the house was haunted.
Despite the warnings, a group of friends decided to explore the mansion one night. They had heard the rumors and wanted to see if they were true. They parked their car outside the gate and made their way through the overgrown garden, up the steps, and through the front door.
As soon as they stepped inside, they felt a chill in the air. The house was dark, and the only light came from their flashlights. The floorboards creaked beneath their feet, and dust hung in the air. But it wasn't just the eerie silence that made them uneasy - it was the feeling that they were being watched.
As they made their way through the house, strange things started to happen. Doors opened and closed by themselves, and objects moved on their own. The group tried to rationalize what they were experiencing, but they couldn't explain the supernatural occurrences.
As they climbed the staircase to the second floor, they heard a soft whispering sound. It was coming from one of the rooms at the end of the hall. The group approached the door, hesitantly pushing it open. Inside, they found a small room filled with old toys and furniture. But it was the old rocking chair in the corner that caught their attention.
As they watched, the rocking chair began to move on its own, swaying back and forth. The group tried to run out of the room, but the door slammed shut, trapping them inside. They could hear footsteps approaching them from behind, but there was no one there when they turned around.
Suddenly, the room was filled with a blinding light, and a figure appeared in front of them. It was a woman, dressed in a long white gown, her hair flowing around her like tendrils of mist. She floated towards them, her eyes glowing with an otherworldly light.
The group was paralyzed with fear, unable to move or speak. The ghostly figure reached out and touched them, and they could feel a cold chill run through their bodies. But then, just as suddenly as she had appeared, the ghost vanished, leaving the group alone in the dark.
The group stumbled out of the mansion, shaken and terrified. They knew that what they had experienced was real - the rumors about the haunted house were true. From that day on, they avoided the mansion, and warned others to stay away from the abandoned mansion.
But the ghostly figure still haunted their dreams, and they knew that they would never forget the terrifying encounter they had with the haunted house. The mansion remained abandoned, a dark reminder of the supernatural forces that lurked in the world.
