Canada's immigration policy is designed to attract and retain skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and investors who can contribute to the country's economy and society. The government of Canada has set a target to welcome over 1.2 million immigrants from 2021 to 2023.
In 2022, Canada aimed to admit 401,000 new permanent residents, with a focus on economic immigration programs. This target includes up to 110,500 principal applicants and their accompanying family members through Express Entry, which is a fast-track immigration program for skilled workers. Additionally, Canada planned to admit up to 90,000 people through Provincial Nominee Programs, which allow Canadian provinces and territories to nominate immigrants based on local economic needs.
Canada also planned to admit up to 30,000 refugees, including 20,000 privately sponsored refugees, and up to 4,500 refugees under the government-assisted refugee program. The remaining 176,500 immigrants were planned to be admitted through various other programs, such as family sponsorship, humanitarian and compassionate cases, and others.
As for the expected number of immigrants in 2023, the Canadian government has set a target of welcoming 421,000 new permanent residents. This target includes 123,500 principal applicants and their accompanying family members through Express Entry, up to 108,500 through Provincial Nominee Programs, and up to 20,500 under the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program, which is designed to attract skilled workers to the Atlantic provinces of Canada.
The government of Canada also plans to continue to welcome refugees and other immigrants through various programs, with a target of up to 36,000 refugees and up to 128,000 immigrants through family sponsorship, humanitarian and compassionate cases, and other programs.
It's important to note that these targets are subject to change and may be affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and other factors.
