Believe it or not for some people, causing pain to the gums in your mouth produces a strange sort of pleasure. I figure it has something to do with a release of endorphins when picking at your gums. Maybe endorphins are released when we experience pain to shield us from that pain?
Therefore causing MINOR pain can actually lead to a pleasurable feeling. This could be limited to certain people who find pleasure in pain -- or using pain to help with the struggle of poor feelings due to depression and other mental illnesses. The term cutter comes to mind. Myself, I am a cutter and have been for more than 20 years. I used that pain just to feel something, anything... and yes, sometimes it felt good. My cutting is in remission for now, which is a good thing for sure.
What do you think? Do you have examples of when pain caused you pleasure? Make a comment!
