R.I.P. Dad (December 29 1936 - March 23 2020)

ROBERT DOUGLAS (BOB) BOGDAN

Robert Douglas (Bob) Bogdan passed away peacefully at the St. Boniface General Hospital, Monday, March 23, 2020.

He was predeceased by his wife Betty; his parents; parents-in-law; and his sister Marge, and her husband Alvin; as well as Betty's sister Judy. Survived by his three children, Barbara (Chris), Brian and Cheryl; daughter-in-law Barbara Katherine; and grandson Cody. Bob will be missed. Also left are special friend Della, and her daughter Melody.

Bob was born December 29, 1936 in Avonlea, Saskatchewan, to Daniel and Muriel Bogdan. The family moved to Regina so Bob and Marge could attend high school. He met and married Betty in 1959, and they were married for 46 years until she died in 2005. Bob completed his CPA part-time at night school, while working full time and supporting his family. He worked as an accountant for various companies. In 1970, Bob was hired with MPI, and worked there until his retirement. He lived in Charleswood, was a member of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. His family and many friends benefited from his patience, generosity, skills, and sense of humour. He had a passion for golf and travelling. Bob was also an advocate for Diabetes research and was an area captain for fundraising, and a frequent participant in research involving new medications for diabetes and its complications. More recently, Bob lived at Silverview Estates, where he was an avid participant and organizer for the WII bowling league and pancake breakfasts. Complications from his diabetes required that he move to Golden Door Geriatric Centre, where he again made friends and could be seen most sunny days reading in the garden. Bob's tenacity was legendary, and he had many stories. He lived life well, and his family and friends will cherish his memory.

The family would like to thank all those involved in his care, particularly his doctors, Dr. Woo, Dr. Langridge, Dr. Snider and Dr. Leicht, the nurses and caregivers at the Health Sciences Centre, Victoria and St. Boniface Hospitals, and the nurses and staff at Golden Door in helping him maintain excellent quality of life despite his recent health challenges.

Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Friday, July 31, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. Since numbers are still limited, if you plan to attend, please let Barbara know.

Flowers gratefully declined, but donations can be made in Bob's name to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
