The Love Doctor

Dear Love Doctor,

I am 16 years old and think I am in love. The object of my obsession is another boy at school. He’s a senior I am a junior. He is all I can think about. Trouble is this is an all boys Catholic school. No one knows I don’t know if he is gay, but he;’s a Letterman footballer and has no girlfriend. I am gay but a few friends kind of know, but we don’t talk about it. My question for you is How do I go about pursuing my interest in him?

This question is extremely complex and really far more complicated that using this forum to figure out what you should and should not do. I have written to a couple of guys in a similar pickle to you. In any case here are the basics. First you need to see if he is responsive to you as a possible love interest (Is he gay?). You could bump into him the next time you see him and place your hand on his arm while apologizing for the bump. If he doesn’t pull away he may be gay (Maybe as he could just be super comfortable in his orientation, be careful). If he seems to like you you will have to ask him directly, as I am afraid that is really the only way you will know for sure.

Dating another boy is an all boys school, (Catholic yet!) Is going to be H-A-R-D. It is quite possible you both will be ridiculed. You both may lose friends, so you need to think about dating him in the open. Perhaps discretion is needed. It depends upon how ‘modern’ the school is.

Anyway, I do wish the best for you. Tread carefully, but enjoy a new true part of your life.
