Speaks OUT on Google's Gay Censorship of Their Video for “Two Men in Love” in an Exclusive Interview with OUT.com
London, UK – April 2, 2013

Artist, composer and gay icon Jamie McDermott remains at the forefront of the LGBT movement and current progression of human rights around the world by going on the record with OUT today about how his UK-based chamber pop ensemble The Irrepressibles recently experienced sexual discrimination from Google, the parent company of You Tube. He speaks exclusively with OUT regarding their recent experience with You Tube's “age restriction” policy that was placed on their video for the single “Two Men in Love” off of their new record Nude.

"The whole focus of the video, the single “Two Men in Love,” and our latest album Nude, is to speak to young, gay people who are isolated and bullied for their differences. The likes of who chose to take their lives in the US and the likes who need to see happy gay couples who they can identify with. We need to fill young people with hope," comments McDermott.

McDermott explains, "The video contains nothing sexual! It's just kisses and love between two men and two women. It is truly discriminatory of YouTube to restrict it so it can't be viewed by anyone under 18 years old—especially when so many heterosexual music videos show dance moves simulating sex between a man and a women and often the type of kisses that do not get this restriction."

The Irrepressibles is the creative work of artist Jamie McDermott. His voice is one of beauty, defiance, emotion, masculinity and gay sexuality. His provocative Farinelli-meets-Elvis style is readily compared to David Bowie, Jeff Buckley and even Grace Jones. From the front cover of Boyz magazine to features in Attitude, Gay Times, Italian Vogue, Vogue L'uomo and Dazed & Confused, McDermott is now somewhat of a nouveau international gay music icon.

The Irrepressibles began in 2002 as an art performance project. They gained a reputation for their now legendary art-pop before being signed to a label. Their performance “spectacles” such as the Human Music Box, Mirror Mirror and Air were commissioned by prestigious venues such as the V&A Museum, Holland Festival and South-Bank Centre. With a mantra to “make something that portrays the real originality, drama and intensity of life,” The Irrepressibles first incarnation was described by McDermott as a “performance orchestra,” that he choreographed and led. Nude is their sophomore effort and released to audiences in North America on February 14.

"The Irrepressibles message of unabashed universal love continues to spread regardless,” concludes McDermott. “Ideally, given what is already happening on in the US government, a progressive organization like Google will choose to participate in spreading that message.”
