From a valued OZling:
BEWARE, FRIENDS:
I almost fell victim to a very sophisticated debit card scam.
Here's how it goes: you get a call, the caller ID is your bank. The guy says he's from the fraud dept, calling about your debit card ending in ----(the 4 correct numbers), and asks if you've been traveling, reports 2 suspicious charges that happened at out-of-state stores (Lowe's and Walmart). You say nope, wasn't me.
He says they'll send you a new card. He knows your address. He knows both of your phone numbers. He sends a verification code to your cell and asks you to read it to him.
THEN HE ASKS FOR YOUR PIN NUMBER, so he can deactivate it. That's where I said "no." But he has an answer for my suspicions: he says look at the number I'm calling from, it matches the number on the back of your card. It does!
But still, I handed the phone to Bob, who said "let us call you back," and he hung up!
I reported this to my bank's fraud dept, who said WE WOULD NEVER ASK FOR YOUR PIN NUMBER. (And immediately cancelled my card.) They also said this is the new scam, they're hearing about it a lot. Tell everyone!

WOW...
A professor gave a balloon to every student, who had to inflate it, write their name on it and throw it in the hallway. The professor then mixed all the balloons. The students were then given 5 minutes to find their own balloon. Despite a hectic search, no one found their balloon.
At that point, the professor told the students to take the first balloon that they found and hand it to the person whose name was written on it. Within 5 minutes, everyone had their own balloon.
The professor said to the students: "These balloons are like happiness. We will never find it if everyone is looking for their own. But if we care about other people's happiness, we'll find ours too."
No Wonder!!!!
Keep reading until the end and you will understand...

The Best of The Love Doctor
Dear Love Doctor,
I’m in love with my sister’s girlfriend. Yes they are gay. I’m not. I’m a healthy, well-adjusted boy. I know that Marge does not like boys. She likes my sister more than anyone else. But the other day I winked at Marge and she winked back. I signaled her to meet me out in the barn. She did. Now she likes boys too. What should I do? I’m afraid that she will tell my sister on me.
Signed,
Farmed Out
Dear Farmed,
I should tell you to be frank with your sister. Tell her about your feelings for Marge. Since she is your loving sister, she will understand and let Marge go... BUT.... It would be not good to "IN" Marge to your sister. Gay people will think that she should have stayed Out of the closet! She will think that soon Marge will be participating in Straight PRIDE Parades and start having sex with alot of straight people. You know.. That straight 'thingy' is infective! Next thing she will think that Marge wants to have an opposite sex wedding! And in a Catholic Church - no less! And also, if you "IN" Marge, you may well be exposing her to not being accepted by the gay community! We can't have that! All hell would break loose--- all those children, being raised by broken marriages! Tell Marge to keep her big mouth shut!
The Love Doctor
How'd they do that????

The Recirculation Button - What is it? When do you use it?
Useful tip from Jeff's Auto Body, Most all vehicles have a recirculation button with the AC controls in their cars. But many of us are unsure when to use it.
Well, the easy answer is to use it in the summer and turn it off in the winter.
The recirculation button simply takes the air from inside the car and recirculates it in the cabin instead of pulling fresh air from outside. On days like today when it is miserably hot outside, if you do not recirculate the cooler air in the cabin, than your AC system is pulling hot air from outside and trying to cool it. Using the recirculation feature will get your car cooler and will decrease the wear and tear on your AC system.
- Side note, if your car has been baking in the sun, its better to roll the windows down and turn recirculate off for the first minute or so to get rid of the super hot air inside the car before turning the recirculate on.
Also, any time you are stuck in traffic ( summer or winter) be sure to use the recirculate. If you are pulling air from outside, then you are pulling in all the pollutants and carbon monoxide from all the traffic.
Studies show that recirculating your AC can cut down on the pollutants entering your vehicle by 20% when stuck in traffic!

Most homes in Lytton, BC, destroyed by raging fire,
After Lytton BC broke the record for hottest temperature ever recorded in Canada, more than 1,000 people fled village and surrounding area; RCMP working to find those unaccounted for.
The province said the loss includes "most homes" and structures in the village, as well as the local ambulance station and RCMP detachment. A local member of parliament said 90 per cent of the village is gone.
The Hotel Scam
This is one of the best scams I’ve heard about.
You arrive at your hotel and check in at the front desk. Typically when checking in, you give the front desk your credit card (for any charges to your room).
You go to your room and settle in. All is good.
The hotel receives a call and the caller asks for (as an example) room 620 - which happens to be your room.
The phone rings in your room. You answer and the person on the other end says the following: 'This is the front desk. When checking in, we came across a problem with your charge card information. Please re-read me your credit card number and verify the last 3 digits numbers at the reverse side of your charge card.'
Not thinking anything wrong, since the call seems to come from the front desk you oblige.
But actually, it is a scam by someone calling from outside the hotel. They have asked for a random room number, then ask you for your credit card and address information. They sound so professional, that you think you are talking to the front desk.
If you ever encounter this scenario on your travels, tell the caller that you will be down to the front desk to clear up any problems. Then, go to the front desk or call directly and ask if there was a problem. If there was none, inform the manager of the hotel that someone tried to scam you of your credit card information, acting like a front desk employee.
ANYONE traveling should be aware of this one!

The Middle Wife (By an Anonymous 2nd grade teacher)
I've been teaching now for about fifteen years. I have two kids myself, but the best birth story I know is the one I saw in my own second-grade classroom a few years back. When I was a kid, I loved show-and-tell.So I always have a few sessions with my students. It helps them get over shyness and usually, show-and-tell is pretty tame. Kids bring in pet turtles, model airplanes, pictures of fish they catch, stuff like that. And I never, ever place any boundaries or limitations on them. If they want to lug it in to school and talk about it, they're welcomed to.
Well, one day this little girl, Erica, a very bright, very outgoing kid, takes her turn and waddles up to the front of the class with a pillow stuffed under her sweater.
She holds up a snapshot of an infant. "This is Luke, my baby brother, and I'm going to tell you about his birthday. First, Mom and Dad made him as a symbol of their love, and then Dad put a seed in my Mom's stomach, and Luke grew in there. He ate for nine months through an umbrella cord."
She's standing there with her hands on the pillow, and I'm trying not to laugh and wishing I had my camcorder with me. The kids are watching her in amazement.
"Then, about two Saturdays ago, my Mom starts saying and going, 'Oh, oh, oh, oh!' " Erica puts a hand behind her back and groans.
"She walked around the house for, like an hour, 'Oh, oh, oh!'" Now this kid is doing a hysterical duck walk and groaning.
"My Dad called the middle wife. She delivers babies, but she doesn't have a sign on the car like the Domino's man. They got my Mom to lie down in bed like this." Then Erica lies down with her back against the wall.
"And then, pop! My Mom had this bag of water she kept in there in case he got thirsty, and it just blew up and spilled all over the bed, like psshhheew!" This kid has her legs spread and with her little hands are miming water flowing away. It was too much!
"Then the middle wife starts saying 'push, push,' and 'breathe, breathe..' They started counting, but never even got past ten. Then, all of a sudden, out comes my brother. He was covered in yucky stuff, they all said it was from Mom's play-center, so there must be a lot of stuff inside there."
Then Erica stood up, took a big theatrical bow and returned to her seat. I'm sure I applauded the loudest. Ever since then, if it's show-and-tell day, I bring my camcorder, just in case another Erica comes along.
