It’s been 15 years since Brokeback Mountain hit theatres and thrusted the heartbreaking story of queer love between two cowboys onto our screens. The fact that Ang Lee’s film seemed “controversial” at the time goes to show just how far we’ve come in depictions of gay men in mainstream pop culture. We’ve also seen an increasing number of queer cowboys — Lil Nas X and Orville Peck, to name two — ever since.
