Many readers are scratching your heads over how People magazine has once again overlooked Ryan Gosling and Jake Gyllenhall for the cover of their annual “Sexiest Man Alive” issue. Not that we’re complaining about this year’s choice — Maroon 5 singer and The Voice judge Adam Levine if you’ve been cave-dwelling this week — but it’s time for an openly gay man to take the mantle from Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon and Channing Tatum. So take note People, below are some out men who deserve the crown.
Matt Bomer
With apologies to Levine, Gosling and Gyllenhall, Bomer flat out deserved the “Sexiest Man Alive” cover — regardless of sexual orientation. That smile. That hair. That butt! Bomer fans nearly lost their shit when the White Collar star was overlooked to play hyper-sexual Christian Grey in the film adaptation of the best-selling mommy porn 50 Shades of Grey. Nearly a 100,000 people signed a petition requesting Bomer star in the film, but the actor landed a more prestigious project — a meaty role in Ryan Murphy’s film version of The Normal Heart.
Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon
The CNN hosts make for the most fabulous Unambiguously Gay Duo in TV journalism. Cooper is the salt to Lemon’s pepper and we wouldn’t mind a sprinkle of either. Either of these men would make a great cover, but imagine the two of them posing together.
Jonathan Groff
The Tony Award-nominated hunk (Spring Awakening), who recently split from Zachary Quinto (another great choice, see below), will soon star in HBO’s upcoming gay-themed San Francisco-set series, Looking. Next year Groff will also be seen with Bomer in the adaptation of Larry Kramer’s landmark play The Normal Heart.
