'G-shot' aims for better sex

WINNIPEG - A Winnipeg cosmetic surgeon is offering women who want to increase their sexual pleasure a controversial new option - an injection into their vagina that's meant to stimulate their G-Spot.

Dr. Anthony Lockwood is one of only about three plastic surgeons in the country offering the 'G-Shot' - a $1,000 injection of collagen that promises to enlarge the female G-Spot and amplify a woman's sex drive and orgasm potential.

But the injection hasn't been approved for that use by Health Canada or the FDA and carries the risk of serious complications for women - including painful intercourse, frequent urination, the potential for scarring in the vagina, bladder damage, infection and pelvic pain.

So far, two Winnipeg women in their 40s have had the procedure. Lockwood said both were "curious" and heard about the G-Shot through the Internet.

Lockwood insisted the G-Shot is reasonably safe, although he said anyone with chronic urinary tract infections, diabetes or chronic pelvic pain should probably avoid it.

"The demand has tripled in the last few years," he said, referring to other genital enhancement procedures, like laser vaginal rejuvenation and labia trimming. The G-Shot is. part of a growing trend of genital enhancements targeted at women to increase their sexual arousal and performance.

Lockwood said the G-Shot injection only takes a couple of seconds and the patient is given a topical anaesthesia. The collagen will swell the G-Spot area to the size of a quarter to increase a patient's sexual gratification.

The effects of the collagen are only temporary, lasting about four months. Some cosmetic clinics, including Lockwood's, offer women the chance to create designer vaginas, by tightening vaginal muscles, reconstructing their hymen or changing the appearance of their labia.
