A light-year is 600 trillion miles long.

A light-year is measured by the distance light travels in a vacuum in one year, which is (only) about six trillion miles. Light travels at a speed of roughly 669,600,000 miles per hour, or 186,000 miles per second. The light-year is used to measure distances between planets and galaxies. One of our closest galaxies, the Andromeda, is about 2.2 million light-years away.
