Pink is to make her movie debut as tragic rock singer Janis Joplin.
It puts her up against Rene Zellweger who is to star in a rival Joplin film project.
Pink, real name Alecia Moore, won the role after a screen test in which she sang Joplin numbers with uncanny vocal accuracy.
"After trying to make a picture on Janis's life for 15 years, I'd call Alecia's screen test the most gratifying moment in my film career," director Penelope Spheeris told Variety.
Shooting is expected to start this summer and the as yet untitled Pink film is likely to be released before Zellweger's Piece Of My Heart.
