Image of Hope

I believe in these difficult and mean-spirited times in which we live there needs to be a message of hope. Just a single image that speaks to us of love, harmony, peace and joy. An image that suggests the universal brotherhood of man. I have found that image, and I ask that you take a moment to be inspired by it.

3D Movies. You've got to love them right? But when in-your-face special effects turn into headache-inducing nausea... the fun is over. What's more, all your friends love 3D movies. You've been there before, a movie is playing in both 2D and 3D, all your friends want to see the 3D version... so what can you do? Easy! Deliver old skool 2D images to your tired eyes with the 3D to 2D Glasses.

2D vs 3D

3D minus the headacheThe De-3D glasses eliminate the 3D effect from 3D movies, allowing you to watch in the comfort of 2D. How do they work you say? In a traditional 3D movie, two images are displayed overlapped on the movie screen. Standard 3D glasses filter these images allowing one to be seen by the right eye and the other to be seen by the left eye. The difference between the two images creates the 3D effect and also the annoying eyestrain and headaches you may have experienced. The De-3D glasses are specially designed to eliminate the left eye image and show only the right eye image to both eyes. In double-blind scientific tests it was determined that when watching 3-D movies the right-eye image was consistently more action packed and and humorous than the left-eye image. Amazing but true.

So next time when your friends want to go see a 3D movie bring your De-3D glasses and you'll have the confidence to tag along knowing that you'll be able to experience the best of the cinema with none of the motion sickness, headaches or nausea. Your friends will thank you too... for not puking on their shoes.

NSA Wanted Backdoor Access In Linux, Says Linus Torvalds’ Father

Tux - the Linux mascot
Tux - The Linux mascot

BY JOEY-ELIJAH SNEDDON, OMG! ubuntu!

The United States’ National Security Agency (NSA) are alleged to have asked the creator of Linux, Linus Torvalds, to create ‘backdoors’ into GNU/Linux through which they could access.

Far from being a rumour, word of the approach comes via Linus’ father, Nils Torvalds.

As a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), Nils was present at recent committee inquiry held on the “Mass Surveillance of EU Citizens”. Here, representatives from a number of companies named in documents leaked by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden were questioned about their own (alleged) involvement.

Following a question put to a Microsoft spokeswoman by Pirate Party MEP Christian Engström on whether the company willingly include “backdoors” for the NSA in their system, Nils Torvalds MEP said:
When my oldest son [Linus Torvalds] was asked the same question: “Has he been approached by the NSA about backdoors?” he said “No”, but at the same time he nodded. Then he was sort of in the legal free. He had given the right answer …everybody understood that the NSA had approached him.
If that sounds familiar to you then you might have seen the snippet on YouTube. Linus went on to insist that he was joking, and that the NSA had not approached him.

But, speaking at November 11th’s inquiry, his father seems to think otherwise.

Following on from allegations that Google, Yahoo!, Facebook and, indeed, Microsoft are among the many companies wilfully cooperating with the agency to provide “backdoor” access to their systems, this revelation is far from earth-shattering. In fact, is makes sense in the grand scheme of things. After all, why wouldn’t the NSA ask Linus to do this?

While Nils doesn’t explain how Linus responded – I’d like to think it involved two fingers – we can be sure that it, at the very least, involved an explanation of how open source prevents something like that being possible.

If any holes were left around for the NSA’s overly-long tentacles to creep into, you can bet your bottom dollar that they’d have been found, exposed and rooted out long before now.

My kind of pope...

7 DIFFERENCES Pope Francis Has Made in One Appearance!

Comparison between 2 popes

1. Changed the Golden Throne by a wooden chair...Something more appropriate for the disciple of a carpenter.

2. Did NOT want the Gold-Embroidered Red Stole, Heir of the Roman Empire ... NOR the Red Chasuble.

3. Uses Same Old Black Shoes, not the classic red.

4. Uses a Metal Cross, NOT one of rubies and diamonds.

5. His Papal Ring is Silver, NOT GOLD.

6. Uses the Same Black Pants Under the Cassock, to Remember That He Is a Another Priest.

Have you discovered the 7th?

7. Removed the Red Carpet.

He is not interested in fame & applause.

If only our "leaders" had the same humility, we would still be a MUCH BETTER NATION!

"Mad Dog" Vachon passes away at 84

Maurice "Mad Dog" Vachon has died.

Vachon, who lived in St. Boniface, Manitoba (now part of Winnipeg), during his American Wrestling Association days in the early 1980s, died of natural causes early Thursday at his home in Omaha, Neb.

"Mad Dog" Vachon

He was 84.

Vachon was such a national icon, his passing drew a comment from the Prime Minister.

"My deepest condolences to the family of Maurice 'Mad Dog' Vachon, a Canadian wrestling legend," Stephen Harper tweeted.

Vachon grew up in Montreal and represented Canada as an 18-year-old amateur wrestler in the 1948 Olympics in London. He followed it with a gold medal at the 1950 British Empire Games, before working as a bouncer and becoming a professional wrestler. He was a 2010 World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Fame inductee.

"Mad Dog" Vachon

In the ring, he would routinely bite and stomp his opponents, pull their hair and rake his fingernails down their backs. Vachon, along with The Crusher and Baron Von Raschke, were the last of an era before WWE owner Vince McMahon, who leaned more toward wrestlers with bodybuilding resumes, said Aiello.

"He was the one guy you didn't want to cross," Aiello said. "He was fair, friendly and always wanted to do business, but there was a certain respect about his legit toughness.

"Yet when we got to know him, you would never know he had a mean streak. He was just the nicest man."

Old lady crossing the road - IKEA

This clip of an Old Lady Crossing The Road always makes me laugh when I see what happens to the obnoxious and rude guy driving the fancy Mercedes. This funny video clip is an Internet classic as it’s been on YouTube practically from the start. I hope his car insurance didn’t cover his air bag being deployed.

Strange Song - Werewolves of London...

Sweet Home Alabama, Werewolves of London or All Summer Long - Fry

I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand
Walking through the streets of Soho in the rain
He was looking for a place called Lee Ho Fook's
Gonna get a big dish of beef chow mein

Aaoooooo!

Werewolves of London!
Aaoooooo! (Repeat)

If you hear him howling around your kitchen door

Better not let him in
Little old lady got mutilated late last night
Werewolves of London again

Asoooooo!

Werewolves of London!
Aaoooooo! (Repeat)

He's the hairy-handed gent who ran amuck in Kent

Lately he's been overheard in Mayfair
Better stay away from him
He'll rip your lungs out, Jim
I'd like to meet his tailor

Aaoooooo!

Werewolves of London!
Aaoooooo! (Repeat)

Well, I saw Lon Chaney walking with the Queen

Doing the Werewolves of London
I saw Lon Chaney, Jr. walking with the Queen
Doing the Werewolves of London
I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's
And his hair was perfect

Aaoooooo!

Werewolves of London!
Aaoooooo! (Repeat)
Draw blood.

This is a weird song. The music is so very happy, and the lyrics says something quite different. Interesting as well as it appears to really be about the gay community in London at the time..

Lone Star Q aims to fill LGBT media void in Texas

The following is by John Wright, Lone Star Q - Texas' Statewide LGBT News Source, and not affiliated to 'OZ' - The 'Other' Side of the Rainbow:

Lone Star Q logo
Official logo of Lone Star Q

During my seven years as a reporter and editor at Dallas Voice, it became clear that what Texas really needs is a statewide, online LGBT news and information source.

Texas is the second-most-populous state in the U.S. It is easily the largest red state and among the more conservative.

The LGBT community has no statewide protections against discrimination and zero relationship recognition at the state level in Texas. Part of the challenge is geography. The big cities where LGBT people tend to gravitate are so spread out that it hampers communication and information-sharing among activists and organizations.

Dallas has a weekly newspaper. Houston has a monthly magazine. San Antonio and Austin have web sites. But other areas, from El Paso to East Texas, have essentially nothing, and no media outlet consistently and thoroughly reports on issues affecting the LGBT community statewide, including the state’s executive, judicial and legislative branches. Lone Star Q is designed to fill that void by becoming a centralized clearinghouse for LGBT news and information across the Lone Star State.

One thing I’ve learned covering the LGBT movement is that communication and education — within the community, among allies and even among opponents — are critical to achieving equality. From transgender protections at both Dallas Area Rapid Transit and Dallas County, to a fully inclusive anti-bullying policy at the Dallas Independent School District, my reporting at Dallas Voice served as a catalyst for change. With your help, Lone Star Q can do so too — and on a larger playing field.

Texas is about to enter a historic election year in which, among other things, voters will choose between a staunch ally and a bitter enemy in the governor’s race. Meanwhile, the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision striking down the Defense of Marriage Act and the spread of marriage equality to 14 states have brought hope that we will soon see change in the Lone Star State. It has never been more important for the community to unite and seize this momentum, and Lone Star Q is here to help.

Please donate to Lone Star Q by going here, join our email list by going here, and follow us on Facebook and Twitter. We are also seeking contributors from across the state. If you’re interested in covering LGBT topics in your city for Lone Star Q, send us an email by going here.

Thank you for your support.

Canadian soldier with poppies

No one has been able to explain to me why young men and women serve in the Canadian Military for up to 20 years, risking their lives & limbs, protecting our freedom, and only get about 40% of their pay on Retirement.

While Politicians hold their political positions in the safe confines of the Nation's Capital, protected by these same men and women, and receive full-pay on Retirement .... after serving only two terms.

It just does not make any sense!!

If each person who reads this, will forward it on to 20 people, in 3 days, most people in Canada , will have got the message ... including the likes of PM Stephen Harper, Senators Mike Duffy & Pamela Wallin, as well as all those other politicians who have NOT yet been caught "double dipping"!!

This is one message that really should be passed around.

I just passed it on by posting this..... will you?

"If you choose not to pass it on, you still have made a choice, and these brave Canadian Heroes have given you that right!"

PSYCHIC SYLVIA BROWNE DIES

PSYCHIC SYLVIA BROWNE DIES AT 77

Sylvia Brown

I wonder if she saw that coming?

Crystal Meth

Dealing with Teenage Methamphetamine Use

Identifying and dealing with teenage drug use is a frightening prospect for any parent. But we live in a world where teens have so many opportunities for losing their way. They have the time and money for vices and less supervision at home. And drugs today are even more powerful and addictive than ever.
Methamphetamine (known on the street as "speed," "meth," "crank," "crystal-meth") is a central nervous system stimulant that is among the most dangerous drugs available. Like cocaine, it is a powerful "upper" that produces alertness and feelings of elation, along with a variety of adverse reactions. Methamphetamine is sometimes called the "poor man’s cocaine," because it costs nearly the same as cocaine with much longer lasting effects.
Methamphetamine can be swallowed, smoked, snorted, or injected. Under the influence of the drug, users often become agitated and "wired." Their behaviour becomes unpredictable: friendly and calm one moment, angry and terrified the next. Once users become too tired to continue using or run out of meth, they will begin to "crash." Initially, the crash is marked by agitated depression, which soon gives way to lethargy, followed by a long deep sleep. Once the user awakens, the depression returns and may last for days. This is the time when the potential for suicide is high.

With prolonged high-dose use or long binges, stimulant psychosis may develop. User may feel intensely paranoid, hear voices, and experience bizarre delusions (such as thinking that people are talking about and/or following them). Methamphetamine-induced panic and psychosis can be extremely dangerous and may result in incidents of extreme violence.

Dangers and consequences of meth use include:
  • sleeplessness
  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • skin ulceration and infection, the result of picking at imaginary bugs
  • paranoia, anxiety, irritability
  • depression
  • increased blood pressure due to the constriction of blood vessels (may produce headaches, chest pain, or irregular heartbeat and lead to stroke or heart attack)
  • seizures
  • permanent brain cell damage
  • for intravenous (IV) users: AIDS, hepatitis, infections and sores at the injection site, and infection of the heart lining and valves (endocarditis)

If you are a parent concerned that your teenager may be using meth, there are symptoms you should look for. You may notice a striking degeneration of your child's attitude, school attendance and marks, dress, personal hygiene, complexion and skin condition, along with increased mood swings, weight loss, and irregular sleeping patterns such as long waking and sleeping periods (days). A change of friends, secrecy, missing monies and valuables, dropping out of extra curriculum activities, and verbal aggression and/or the threat of physical aggression are also warning signs. If you suspect your child of drug use, contact a professional or counselor to help guide you through the process of acknowledging, confronting, and dealing with this problem. Professionals, non-profits, and faith-based organizations are available throughout Saskatchewan to help you and your family through this difficult time. Seniors Can't Be All Bad

Senior citizens are constantly being criticized for every conceivable deficiency of the modern world, real or imaginary. We know we take responsibility for all we have done and do not blame others.

HOWEVER, upon reflection, we would like to point out that it was NOT the senior citizens who took:

The melody out of music,
The pride out of appearance,
The courtesy out of driving,
The romance out of love,
The commitment out of marriage,
The responsibility out of parenthood,
The togetherness out of the family,
The learning out of education,
The service out of patriotism,
The Golden Rule from rulers,
The nativity scene out of cities,
The civility out of behavior,
The refinement out of language,
The dedication out of employment,
The prudence out of spending,
The ambition out of achievement, or,
God out of government and school.

And we certainly are NOT the ones who eliminated patience and tolerance from personal relationships and interactions with others!!

YES, I'M A SENIOR CITIZEN!

I'm the life of the party...... even if it lasts until 8 p.m.
I'm very good at opening childproof caps... with a hammer.
I'm usually interested in going home before I get to where I am going.
I'm awake many hours before my body allows me to get up.
I'm smiling all the time because I can't hear a thing you're saying.
I'm very good at telling stories; over and over and over and over...
I'm aware that other people's grandchildren are not nearly as cute as mine.
I'm so cared for -- long term care, eye care, private care, dental care.

I'm not really grouchy,

I just don't like traffic, waiting, crowds, lawyers, loud music, unruly kids, Jenny Craig and Toyota commercials, barking dogs, politicians and a few other things I can't seem to remember right now.

I'm sure everything I can't find is in a safe secure place, somewhere.
I'm wrinkled, saggy, lumpy, and that's just my left leg.
I'm having trouble remembering simple words like.......
I'm beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps.
I'm sure they are making adults much younger these days, and when did they let kids become policemen?
I'm wondering, if you're only as old as you feel, how could I be alive at 150?
And, how can my kids be older than I feel sometimes?

I'm a walking storeroom of facts..... I've just lost the key to the storeroom door.

Yes, I'm a SENIOR CITIZEN and I think I am having the time of my life!

Now if I could only remember who sent this to me....

Male logic

What deep thinkers men are... I mowed the lawn today, and after doing so I sat down and had a cold beer. The day was really quite beautiful, and the drink facilitated some deep thinking.

My wife walked by and asked me what I was doing and I said 'nothing'.

The reason I said that instead of saying 'just thinking' is because she would have said 'about what'.

At that point I would have to explain that men are deep thinkers about various topics which would lead to other questions.

Finally I thought about an age old question: Is giving birth more painful than getting kicked in the nuts? Women always maintain that giving birth is way more painful than a guy getting kicked in the nuts.

Well, after another beer, and some heavy deductive thinking, I have come up with the answer to that question. Getting kicked in the nuts is more painful than having a baby; and here is the reason for my conclusion. A year or so after giving birth, a woman will often say, "It might be nice to have another child." On the other hand, you never hear a guy say, "You know, I think I would like another kick in the nuts."

I rest my case.

Time for another beer.
