Facts!???!

Here are some interesting tidbits that just maybe you didn't know.

In George Washington's days, there were no cameras. One's image was either sculpted or painted. Some paintings of George Washington showed him standing behind a desk with one arm behind his back while others showed both legs and both arms. Prices charged by painters were not based on how many people were to be painted, but by how many limbs were to be painted. Arms and legs are 'limbs,' therefore painting them would cost the buyer more.. Hence the expression, 'Okay, but it'll cost you an arm and a leg.' (Artists know hands and arms are more difficult to paint)

HYUK!
As incredible as it sounds, men and women took baths only twice a year (May and October) Women kept their hair covered, while men shaved their heads (because of lice and bugs) and wore wigs. Wealthy men could afford good wigs made from wool. They couldn't wash the wigs, so to clean them they would carve out a loaf of bread, put the wig in the shell, and bake it for 30 minutes. The heat would make the wig big and fluffy, hence the term 'big wig.' Today we often use the term 'here comes the Big Wig' because someone appears to be or is powerful and wealthy.

HYUK!
In the late 1700's, many houses consisted of a large room with only one chair. Commonly, a long wide board folded down from the wall, and was used for dining. The 'head of the household' always sat in the chair while everyone else ate sitting on the floor. Occasionally a guest, who was usually a man, would be invited to sit in this chair during a meal. To sit in the chair meant you were important and in charge. They called the one sitting in the chair the 'chair man.' Today in business, we use the expression or title 'Chairman' or 'Chairman of the Board.'

HYUK!
Personal hygiene left much room for improvement. As a result, many women and men had developed acne scars by adulthood. The women would spread bee's wax over their facial skin to smooth out their complexions. When they were speaking to each other, if a woman began to stare at another woman's face she was told, 'mind your own bee's wax.' Should the woman smile, the wax would crack, hence the term 'crack a smile'. In addition, when they sat too close to the fire, the wax would melt . . . Therefore, the expression 'losing face.'

HYUK!
Ladies wore corsets, which would lace up in the front. A proper and dignified woman, as in 'straight laced'. . Wore a tightly tied lace.

HYUK!
Common entertainment included playing cards. However, there was a tax levied when purchasing playing cards but only applicable to the 'Ace of Spades.' To avoid paying the tax, people would purchase 51 cards instead. Yet, since most games require 52 cards, these people were thought to be stupid or dumb because they weren't 'playing with a full deck.'

HYUK!
Early politicians required feedback from the public to determine what the people considered important. Since there were no telephones, TV's or radios, the politicians sent their assistants to local taverns, pubs, and bars. They were told to 'go sip some ale' and listen to people's conversations and political concerns. Many assistants were dispatched at different times. 'You go sip here' and 'You go sip there.' The two words 'go sip' were eventually combined when referring to the local opinion and, thus we have the term 'gossip.'

HYUK!
At local taverns, pubs, and bars, people drank from pint and quart-sized containers. A bar maid's job was to keep an eye on the customers and keep the drinks coming. She had to pay close attention and remember who was drinking in 'pints' and who was drinking in 'quarts,' hence the term 'minding your'P's and Q's '

HYUK!
One more and betting you didn't know this!

In the heyday of sailing ships, all war ships and many freighters carried iron cannons. Those cannons fired round iron cannon balls. It was necessary to keep a good supply near the cannon. However, how to prevent them from rolling about the deck? The best storage method devised was a square-based pyramid with one ball on top, resting on four resting on nine, which rested on sixteen.. Thus, a supply of 30 cannon balls could be stacked in a small area right next to the cannon. There was only one problem...how to prevent the bottom layer from sliding or rolling from under the others. The solution was a metal plate called a 'Monkey' with 16 round indentations.

However, if this plate were made of iron, the iron balls would quickly rust to it. The solution to the rusting problem was to make 'Brass Monkeys.' Few landlubbers realize that brass contracts much more and much faster than iron when chilled.

Consequently, when the temperature dropped too far, the brass indentations would shrink so much that the iron cannonballs would come right off the monkey.. Thus, it was quite literally, 'Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.' (All this time, you thought that was an improper expression, didn't you.)

HYUK!
If you don't send this fabulous bit of historic knowledge to any and all your unsuspecting friends, your floppy is going to fall off your hard drive and kill your mouse. HISTORIC IS RIGHT! Who ever heard of a floppy?? JK

Starbucks Anonymous

Starbucks Logo

**From "Scott's Tip of the Day" (with some additions by The Wizard of 'OZ'

Hello, my name is Betrayer of Independent Coffee Shops Everywhere and yes, I am a Starbucks-aholic.

My conversion to the dark side did not happen overnight. No, the evil force that is Starbucks snuck up on me gradually – almost innocently. Now, however, this dark pit of corporate pseudo-culture has wrapped itself firmly around my existence like the mind-numbingly horrible disease that it is.

To be fair, I don’t think Starbucks means to be evil. It just is. Or maybe Starbucks itself is not evil. Maybe it is Starbucks customers that are the actual dark force responsible for the death of independent coffeehouses (and coffee house culture) across the nation.

Maybe you agree, maybe you do not – but you are probably wandering what the hell all this has to do with a ‘gay’ post? Let me ‘splain, no, no, is too much, let me sum up.

Starbucks is shiny, glowing example of how complacency is warping our country into a moronic assembly of sheep. Not only sheep, but sheep who walk humbly forward to offer themselves as fuzzy coats and tasty lamb chops with mint sauce. Okay, so maybe the metaphor is a bit thick. Simply put, the people who line up to wait for skinny, half-caf, venti, one Splenda mochas at Starbucks are the same people who let George Bush win the presidency and think protesting the war in Iraq is ‘un-American’ – or at least pretty pointless.

Those clueless toadies who let themselves be abused by baristas in aprons are the same folk who sneer at the poor, insult the less-educated and smile at gay people while declaring them comparable to pedophiles. Or, at the least, they don’t care enough about the poor, less-educated or minority populations to actually do anything about making their lives better.

Starbucks is the anti-Christ of coffee culture. The entire purpose of Starbucks is to move in, drive out any local competition and become the sole coffee god of whatever neighborhood they have taken over. Look at Vancouver. Sadly, they are very good at it. Primarily because Starbucks is an over-inflated corporation with tons of ready capital. However, the second largest reason they can take over, drive indie coffee shops out of business and destroy all vestige of local coffee culture is us – the customer.

Thank goodness when in downtown Saskatoon, We would rather than drive the half-mile down the road to the eclectic Broadway Roastery with eclectic pictures decorating the walls than walk to the nearest corner Starbucks . We would rather be served by the good, clean-cut ‘pretty’ Canadian employees of the Roastery and exchange words with the slightly crazed-looking punk boy with purple hair and a pierced lip.

Mostly, we would rather that our visits to coffee shops be different from everything else – interesting enough to warrant an appearance to pick up your daily caffeine, meet someone new, form an opinion or even step outside of our daily routine for a single second.

Indie coffee shops are places that you go to experience life – even if it is just to sit in a corner and read, write or people-watch. Starbucks shops are dead worlds where you go to work on a ‘business proposal,’ write your term paper or talk about shopping with a group of people who look so much like you that you’d think you’d walked into a cloning lab.

Unfortunately, that seems to be what people want. They want conformity, sameness – the boring old routine every day. People want a comfortable, non-threatening universe where nothing changes except the daily coffee choices (and those not often). They don’t want adventure; they don’t want challenge. Increasingly, our country is becoming more and more a reflection of this attitude.

We don’t challenge our government. Hell, a great majority don’t even know exactly what their government is doing that they should be challenging. Scary people want to ban gays from having equal rights because they don’t think a new flavor should be added to the menu. Things that are different are evil! How many people at Starbucks have ever tried a kiwi fizz cream soda? Not many I’d bet, but I remember an indie coffee shop where people just couldn’t get enough of them. How many conservative right-wingers have ever actually tried to educate themselves about gays? About as few as have tried a kiwi soda I’m betting.

Starbucks is not, in itself, evil – I think. Sadly, I think it is myself – and the many hundreds like me that are the real problem. If I had the cash, I'd go to Starbucks almost daily. Starbucks is about 10 blocks from my apartment. When I have a mocha craving, and I am downtown, it is the easiest thing in the world just to walk over and have a nice, perfectly pretty blond barista serve one up for me. To visit the nearest indie shop would require an extra set of steps, and getting fit in the process and paying more money for a probably pricier, culturally-responsible, small-business-supporting hot chocolate coffee drink. Not to mention, I live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The number of indie coffee shops in this city are more visible than the number of gay people you see holding hands downtown – and that part at least is good. That's why we have to try to ignore that Starbucks sign.

So, like all the people who vote for candidates who they’ve seen the most number of times in television commercials – I give the Starbucks my patronage over and over again. It is quick, it is easy and it requires no involvement of my brain whatsoever. It’s very American, but I'm Canadian, eh?

Ask The Wizard (The Registry)

The Wizard Of 'OZ' Dear Wizard of OZ,

What is the Windows Registry?

Signed,

Confused

Dear Confused,

WOW! What a question!

To many the Windows Registry is a mysterious forbidden zone, a place they dare not tread. The registry, however, can be a powerful tool for customizing Windows. If you've avoided the registry in the past, it may be time to put your fears behind you and find out what the registry can do for you.

This article is a basic tutorial on what the registry is and how it functions. To show you how to put this information to good use, also included is a great tip for using your registry to speed up Internet Explorer.

Warning
The following article involves editing your system registry. Using the Windows Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems requiring the re-installation of your operating system and possible loss of data. Use the Registry Editor and the following directions at your own risk.

What is the registry?

The Windows Registry is the database that holds all the settings Windows needs to function.

Normally, you don't interact directly with the registry; instead, you use Windows utilities (such as those found in the Control Panel) or INI, SYS, BAT files, and so forth. These tools allow you to customize the registry without actually working directly with it. There are, however, features that can only be set by editing the registry directly.

Registry structure

The registry is a hierarchical database, like Windows Explorer, where folders are nested within folders. Depending on your Windows version, the Registry comprises four to six subtrees of keys called hives.

Accessing the registry

Currently, there are two registry-editing programs, Regedit and Regedt32. Windows 95/98/Me use the 16-bit version, Regedit, while Windows NT, 2000 and XP use both versions. Regedit, the 16-bit version, offers faster searches, while Regedt32, the 32-bit version, allows you to prevent automatic saving. To start either program, click Start>>Run and enter the command regedit or regedt32, depending on which one you want to use.

Backing up the registry

Backing up the registry is tricky since many of its parts are constantly in use by Windows. Trying to back up the registry while Windows is accessing the registry can cause a sharing violation. To solve this issue, Windows NT and Windows 2000 Resource Kits offer two programs: RegBack.exe to back up the registry and RegRest.exe to restore the registry. Windows XP has the System Restore utility. A Windows Emergency Repair Disk can also be used as a registry backup, if it was updated recently using the RDISK utility. In addition, there are many third party utilities, such as Roxio's Go Back, that will back up your registry.

The hives

To get a better understanding of the inner workings of the registry, let us take a stroll through the hives (or keys).

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

This key contains file extension associations. For instance, Windows can recognize a .doc file as a Microsoft Word document because of the settings in this key. Use the Folder Options command from the Tools menu in Windows Explorer instead of adding new extensions to this key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER

This key holds profile information for the user that is currently logged on. Each time a user logs on; the user's profile is copied from the HKEY_USERS key to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER key. This key cannot be edited

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

This key holds hardware and software information within its five subkeys, which are the following:

Hardware - The Hardware subkey stores settings for device drivers, IRQ hooks, and so forth. It is re-created each time your computer boots.
Security accounts manager (SAM) - The SAM subkey stores information on security settings, user accounts and group memberships.
Security - The Security subkey holds information on local security policies such as password policy, user rights, account lockout and so forth.
Software - The Software subkey, which applies to all local users, stores data about installed software.
System - The System subkey stores information needed to boot Windows.
The first three (Hardware, SAM, and Security) cannot be modified.

HKEY_USERS

This key contains the default profile as well as profiles for all users who have logged on to the computer. This key can be edited, but exercise care when doing so.

HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG

This key holds hardware information that is currently in use and allows for backwards compatibility with older applications and device drivers. The information stored here cannot be edited.

Hope this helps,

Yrs,

The Wizard

Dear Wizard of OZ,

How can I speed up Internet Explorer?

Signed Slow Surfer

Dear Molasses,

Now that you've had a crash course on registry basics, it's time to get a little more hands on. This means that it's time to try to add some zip to your Internet Explorer.

Warning
The following article involves editing your system registry. Using the Windows Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems requiring the re-installation of your operating system and possible loss of data. Use the Registry Editor and the following directions at your own risk.

Whether you can make Internet Explorer a lot faster or not depends mostly on your current Internet connection, but this handy tip is an excellent example of putting the registry to work for you. I am on DSL and was able to see a significant improvement. Before doing anything else, be sure to back up the registry.

What we are going to do is increase the number of streams that your browser can draw from.

Since Internet Explorer complies with HyperText Protocol v1.1, browsers usually only draw two streams or less from a Web server. We are going to increase that from two streams to six. This should enable you to browse much faster. To begin:

1. Click Start | Run.
2. Type regedit and click OK.
3. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then Software, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersion.
4. Click on Internet Settings to view its contents.
5. Check Regedit's right-hand column for the following two lines (values):

  • MaxConnectionsPerServer

  • MaxConnectionsPerl_OServer

    6. If these values are present, right-click on the first value (MaxConnectionsPerServer), select Modify from the drop-down menu, click Decimal, and set the Value data field to 6. Repeat this process for the second value (MaxConnectionsPerl_OServer).

If these lines (values) are not listed, right-click on the white region of Regedit's right-hand column, click New, and then click DWORD Value.

    1. Enter MaxConnectionsPerServer for the name of the new DWORD Value and press Enter. The new value should now appear in Regedit's right-hand column.
    2. Right-click the new value and click Modify.
    3. As in step six, click Decimal and set the Value Data field to 6, then click OK.
    4. Repeat steps seven through 10 using MaxConnectionsPerl_OServer as the new DWORD Value name instead of MaxConnectionsPerServer.
    5. You are done. Close Regedit and test Internet Explorer.

Hope this helps, 5 bucks please!

    Officer Downe

    WooHOO!

Returning home from work, a blonde was shocked to find her house ransacked and burglarized. She telephoned the police at once and reported the crime. The police dispatcher broadcast the call on the radio, and a K-9 unit, patrolling nearby was the first to respond. As the K-9 officer approached the house with his dog on a leash, the blonde ran out on the porch, shuddered at the sight of the cop and his dog, then sat down on the steps. Putting her face in her hands, she moaned, "I come home to find all my possessions stolen. I call the police for help, and what do they do? They send me a BLIND policeman!"

    IDIOTS:

    IDIOTS IN SERVICE:
This week, our phones went dead and I had to contact the telephone repair people. They promised to be out between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. When I asked if they could give me a smaller time window, the pleasant gentleman asked, "Would you like us to call you before we come?" I replied that I didn't see how he would be able to do that since our
phones weren't working. He also requested that we report future outages by email. (My email won't work without a telephone line!).

    WooHOO!

    IDIOTS AT WORK:
I was signing the receipt for my credit card purchase when the clerk noticed I had never signed my name on the back of the credit card. She informed me that she could not complete the transaction unless the card was signed. When I asked why, she explained that it was necessary to compare the signature I had just signed on the receipt. So I signed the credit card in front of her. She carefully compared the signature to the one I had just signed on the receipt. As luck would have it, they matched.

    IDIOTS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD:
I live in a semi-rural area. We recently had a new neighbor call the local township administrative office to request the removal of the Deer Crossing sign on our road. The reason: too many deer were being hit by cars and she didn't want them to cross there anymore. I could swear I've recently been with some of these people....

    IDIOTS IN FOOD SERVICE:
My daughter went to a local Taco Bell and ordered a taco. She asked the person behind the counter for "minimal lettuce." He said he was sorry, but they only had iceberg.

    IDIOT SIGHTING #1
I was at the airport, checking in at the gate when an airport employee asked, "Has anyone put anything in your baggage without your knowledge?" To which I replied, "If it was without my knowledge, how would I know?" She smiled knowingly and nodded, "That's why we ask."

    WooHOO!

    IDIOT SIGHTING #2
The stoplight on the corner buzzes when it's safe to cross the street. I was crossing with a coworker of mine when she asked if I knew what the buzzer was for. I explained that it signals blind people when the light is red. Appalled, she responded, "What on earth are blind people doing driving?"

IDIOT SIGHTING #3< At a good-bye luncheon for an old and dear coworker who is leaving the company due to "downsizing," our manager commented cheerfully, "This is fun. We should do this more often." Not a word was spoken. We all just looked at each other with that deer-in-the-headlights stare. IDIOT SIGHTING #4 I work with an individual who plugged her power strip back into itself and for the life of her couldn't understand why her system would not turn on. IDIOT SIGHTING #5 When my husband and I arrived at an automobile dealership to pick up our car, we were told the keys had been locked in it. We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver's side door. As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked. "Hey," I announced to the technician, "it's open!" To which he replied, "I know - I already got that side." WooHOO!

    Now don't you feel better?

    10 Puns for your day

    1. Two vultures board an airplane, each carrying two dead raccoons. The stewardess looks at them and says, "I'm sorry, gentlemen, only one carrion allowed per passenger."

    2. Two boll weevils grew up in South Carolina. One went to Hollywood and became a famous actor. The other stayed behind in the cotton fields and never amounted to much. The second one, naturally, became known as the lesser of two weevils.

    3. Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, but when they lit a fire in the craft, it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it, too.

    4. A three-legged dog walks into a saloon in the Old West. He slides up to the bar and announces: "I'm looking for the man who shot my paw."

    WooHOO!

    5. Did you hear about the Buddhist who refused Novocain during a root canal? He wanted to transcend dental medication.

    6. A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse. "But why?" they asked, as they moved off. "Because," he said, "I can't stand chess nuts boasting in an open foyer."

    7. A woman has twins and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named "Ahmal." The other goes to a family in Spain; they name him "Juan." Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Ahmal. Her husband responds, "They're twins! If you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal.

    8. These friars were behind on their belfry payments, so they opened up a small florist shop to raise funds. Since everyone liked to buy flowers from the men of God, a rival florist across town thought the competition was unfair. He asked the good fathers to close down, but they would not. He went back and begged the friars to close. They ignored him. So, the rival florist hired Hugh MacTaggart, the roughest and most vicious thug in town to "persuade" them to close. Hugh beat up the friars and trashed their store, saying he'd be back if they didn't close up shop. Terrified, they did so, thereby proving that Hugh, and only Hugh, can prevent florist friars.

    9. Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him -- oh, man, this is so bad, it's good --

a super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

    10. And finally, there was the person who sent ten different puns to friends, with the hope that at least one of the puns would make them laugh. Unfortunately, no pun in ten did.

    WooHOO!

    The Mystery Is Solved!

A kilted Scotsman was walking down a country path after finishing off a considerable amount of whisky at a local pub. As he staggered down the road, he felt quite sleepy and decided to take a nap, with his back against a tree.

As he slept, two young lasses walked down the road and heard the Scotsman snoring loudly. They saw him, and one said, "I've always wondered what a Scotsman wears under his kilt."

She boldly walked over to the sleeping man, raised his kilt, and saw what nature had provided him at his birth.

Her friend said, "Well, he has solved a great mystery for us, now! He must be rewarded!" So, she took a blue ribbon from her hair, and gently tied it around what nature had provided the Scotsman, and the two walked away.

Several minutes later, the Scotsman was awakened by the call of nature, and walked around to the other side of the tree to relieve himself. He raised his kilt...and saw where the blue ribbon was tied. After several moments of bewilderment, the Scotsman said...

    "I dinna know where y'been lad...but it's nice ta'know y'won first prize!"

    The Spoon

I took some clients out to dinner last week, and I noticed a spoon in the shirt pocket of our waiter as he handed us the menus. It seemed a little odd, but I dismissed it as a random thing. Until our busboy came with water & tableware; he, too, sported a spoon in his breast-pocket. I looked around the room, and all the waiters, waitresses, busboys, etc had spoons in their pockets. When our waiter returned to take our order, I just had to ask, "Why the spoons?"

"Well," he explained, "our parent company recently hired some Andersen Consulting efficiency experts to review all our procedures, and after months of statistical analyses, they concluded that our patrons drop spoons on the floor 73% more often than any other utensil; at a frequency of 3 spoons per hour per workstation. By preparing all our workers for this contingency in advance, we can cut our trips to the kitchen down and save time...nearly 1.5 extra man hours per shift."

Just as he concluded, a "ch-ching" came from the table behind him, and he quickly replaced a fallen spoon with the one from his pocket. "I'll grab another spoon the next time I'm in the kitchen instead of making a special trip," he proudly explained.

I was impressed. "Thanks. I had to ask."

"No problem," he answered, then he continued to take our orders. As the members of my dinner party took their turns, my eyes darted back & forth from each person ordering and my menu. That's when, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a thin, black thread protruding from our waiter's fly. Again, I dismissed it; yet I had to scan the room and, sure enough, there were other waiters & busboys with strings hanging out of their trousers.

My curiosity overrode discretion at this point, so before he could leave I had to ask. "Excuse me, but...uh...why, or what...about that string?"

"Oh, yeah" he began in a quieter tone. "Not many people are that observant. That same efficiency group found we could save time in the Men's room, too."

    "How's that?"

"You see, by tying a string to the end of our, eh, selves, we can pull it out at the urinals literally hands-free and thereby eliminate the need to wash our hands, cutting time spent in the restroom by over 93%!"

"Oh, that makes sense," I said, but then thinking thru the process, I asked "Hey, wait-a-minute. If the string helps you pull it out, how do you get it back in?"

"Well," he whispered, "I don't know about the other guys; but I use my spoon.

    Pretending

A old man and an old woman, who have never met before, find themselves assigned to the same sleeping room on a transcontinental train. Though initially embarrassed and uneasy over sharing a room, the two are tired and fall asleep quickly.

He is in the upper bunk and she is in the lower. At 1:00 AM, he leans over and gently wakes the woman saying, "Ma'am, I'm sorry to bother you, but would you be willing to reach into the closet to get me a second blanket? I'm awfully cold."

    Old Guy

"I have a better idea," she replies. "Just for tonight, let's pretend that we're married, besides, I'm awfully hot."
    Old Gal

"Wow! That's a great idea!!" he exclaims. "Good," she replies. "Get your own damn blanket!"

After a moment of silence, he farted.

    Ivri Lider

Ivri LiderIt’s been a big year for openly gay Israeli pop star Ivri Lider. His first U.S. single, "Jesse," was released, exposing the singer to an entirely new fanbase and the music video has been in constant rotation on Logo (AfterElton.com’s parent company) ever since. He also performed a song in The Bubble, for which the singer also composed the score. If that weren’t enough, he was also selected as one of Out Magazine’s "Out 100" last month.

Gay blog Hunk du Jour scored an interview with the singer, in which he talks a bit about his upcoming Hebrew and English language albums and his ongoing professional relationship with director Eytan Fox. The singer addresses the fairly liberal attitude towards LGBT people in his native country and how things have changed since he first publicly came out in 2002:

I can definitely say there has been a shift. I think famous people coming out is an extremely important thing that helps to change lots of peoples' views. It also helps a lot of young people who are dealing with their sexuality and the feelings of being isolated and alone in the world. With regard to Israel, or at least Tel Aviv, you could probably call it one of the gayest cities in the world. For most people here, it's just not an issue.

The singer has also apparently found love since the last time we mentioned him on this blog:

I have a boyfriend for over a year now. His name is Mike Phifer and we met in New York. He moved to Israel nine months ago and now we live together here in Tel Aviv. I suppose I want the same thing everyone else wants in a man, someone who's smart, kind, cuddly, and really great in bed.

It’s definitely nice to see someone who’s managed to find worldwide success while making no apologies for being an out and proud gay man. Here’s hoping that Lider’s success continues when his new albums drop later this year. A U.S. tour is planned to begin sometime in March, before the album’s release.

You can watch the video for "Jesse" below:

    Martin Luther King Jr.

Quotes From Martin Luther King, Jr.:

Martin Luther King, Jr.1. A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus.

    2. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

    3. He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.

    4. It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can keep him from lynching me, and I think that’s pretty important.

    5. I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.

    6. Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable. No social advance rolls in on the wheels of inevitability. Every step requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle – the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.

    7. Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon. It cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it. It is a sword that heals.

    8. We will never have peace in the world until men everywhere recognize that ends are not cut off from the means because the means represent the end in process, and ultimately you cannot reach good ends through evil means because the means represent the seed and the end represents the tree.

    9. An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.

    10. An individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law.

    11. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

    12. If we are to go forward, we must go back and rediscover those precious values: that all reality hinges on moral foundations and that all reality has spiritual control.

    13. Nonviolence means avoiding not only external physical violence but internal violence of spirit. You not only refuse to shoot a man, but you refuse to hate him.

    14. Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men.

    15. That old law about “an eye for an eye” leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.

    16. Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, “What are you doing for others?”

    17. The first question that the priest and the Levite asked was: "If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?" But...the good Samaritan reversed the question: "If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?"

    18. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.

    19. If physical death is the price I must pay to free my white brothers and sisters from a permanent death of the spirit, then nothing can be more redemptive.

    20. We’ve got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn’t matter with me now because I’ve been to the mountaintop. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. But I’m not concerned about that now. I just want to do God’s will. And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain, and . . . I’ve seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight that we, as people, will get to the Promised Land. And I’m happy tonight. I’m not fearing any man. (Spoken shortly before his death.)

    Household Hints from The Wizard

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.
Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!
Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating.
Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.
Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.
To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream; then beat them. ?
Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic and at the end of the recipe if your want a stronger taste of garlic.
    Reheat Pizza
Heat leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove; set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the food channel and it really works.
    Easy Deviled Eggs
Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal; mash till they are all broken up Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy; squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done – easy clean up.
    Reheating refrigerated bread
To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave next to a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.
    Newspaper weeds away
Start putting torn newspaper in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers, put layers around the plants, overlapping as you go; cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic; they will not get through wet newspapers.
    Broken Glass
Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can’t see easily.
    Flexible vacuum
To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.
    Reducing Static Cling
Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and … ta da! … static is gone.
    Measuring Cups
Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water.
Dump out the hot water, but don’t dry cup. Next, add your ingredient (peanut butter, honey, etc.) and watch how easily it comes right out. ?
    Foggy Windshield?
Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth! ?
    Reopening envelope
If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily.
    Conditioner
Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It’s cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It’s also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn’t like when you tried it in your hair.
    Goodbye Fruit Flies
To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2 with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!
    Get Rid of Ants
Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it ‘home,’ can’t digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don’t have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!
    INFO ABOUT CLOTHES DRYERS
The heating unit went out on my dryer! The gentleman that fixes things around the house for us told us that he wanted to show us something and he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean. (I always clean the lint from the filter after every load of clothes.) He took the filter over to the sink and ran hot water over it. The lint filter is made of a mesh material . I’m sure you know what your dryer’s lint filter looks like. Well …. the hot water just sat on top of the mesh! It didn’t go through it at all! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh – that’s what burns out the heating unit.
You can’t SEE the film, but it’s there. It’s what is in the dryer sheets to make your clothes soft and static free. You know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box … well this stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen. This is also what causes dryer units to potentially burn your house down with it! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush at least every six months.
He said that increases the life of the dryer at least twice as long! How about that!?!
Learn something new everyday! I certainly didn’t know dryer sheets would do that. So, I thought I’d share!
Note: I went to my dryer and tested my screen by running water on it. The water ran through a little bit but mostly collected all the water in the mesh screen. I washed it with warm soapy water and a nylon brush and I had it done in 30 seconds. Then when I rinsed it … the water ran right thru the screen! There wasn’t any puddling at all! That repairman knew what he was talking about!

    GodMode in Windows 7

Although its name suggests perhaps even grander capabilities, Windows enthusiasts are excited over the discovery of a hidden "GodMode" feature that lets users access all of the operating system's control panels from within a single folder.

The trick is also said to work in Windows Vista, although some are warning that although it works fine in 32-bit versions of Vista, it can cause 64-bit versions of that operating system to crash.

To create "GodMode," create a folder, then create these 2 text files, save the one as GMCreate.vbs and the other as GMList.txt and place in that folder. The run the script. It's that simple! See below:

    GMCREATE.vbs
    GMList.txt
Simply delete the GodMode appelets that you don't require.
    Happy GodMode!

    Really!

I TRULY DID NOT KNOW THIS!

Las Vegas churches accept gambling chips

    Las Vegas

THIS MAY COME AS A SURPRISE TO THOSE OF YOU NOT LIVING IN LAS VEGAS, BUT THERE ARE MORE CATHOLIC CHURCHES THAN CASINOS.

NOT SURPRISINGLY, SOME WORSHIPERS AT SUNDAY SERVICES WILL GIVE CASINO CHIPS RATHER THAN CASH WHEN THE BASKET IS PASSED.

SINCE THEY GET CHIPS FROM MANY DIFFERENT CASINOS, THE CHURCHES HAVE DEVISED A METHOD TO COLLECT THE OFFERINGS.

THE CHURCHES SEND ALL THEIR COLLECTED CHIPS TO A NEARBY FRANCISCAN MONASTERY FOR SORTING AND THEN THE CHIPS ARE TAKEN TO THE CASINOS OF ORIGIN AND CASHED IN.

THIS IS DONE BY THE CHIP MONKS.

YOU DIDN'T EVEN SEE IT COMING DID YOU?

    GOTCHA!

As Canada gets set to pull our troops out, Canada is sending an Underground Assault Team Into Afganistan

To further protect our troops in Afghanistan, Prime Minister Harper has assembled a crack underground assault team to help with the Afghanistan conflict. When asked, "Why do we need this when we now have helicopters to protect our troops?", Harper replied, "We are trying to minimize the loss of human life and Saskatchewan has been training this team for years now. They have graciously offered to send in the re-enforcements. Premier of Saskatchewan, Brad Wall sums up the decision when asked about sending the team into the war, "Well, I know they have trained very hard - hell, we haven't even been able to find or penetrate their training grounds in central Saskatchewan - they are fully capable of getting in "under the radar."

Below is one of the underground soldiers fully outfitted in battle gear.

    Lost Balls...

Golf Ball MascotA man staggered into a hospital with a concussion, multiple bruises, two black eyes, and a five-iron wrapped tightly around his throat. Naturally, the doctor asked him, "What happened to you?"

"Well, I was having a quiet round of golf with my wife, when at a difficult hole; we both sliced our balls into a cow pasture.
We went to look for them. While I was looking around, I noticed one of the cows had something white at its rear end.

I walked over, lifted its tail, and sure enough, there was a golf ball with my wife's monogram on it, stuck right in the middle of the cow's butt.
Still holding the cow's tail up, I yelled to my wife, 'Hey, this looks like yours!'

I don't remember much after that."
