Happy Pi Day

Happy Pi Day

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) every year in honour of the mathematical constant pi (π). Pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, and it is approximately equal to 3.14159.

The celebration of Pi Day originated with physicist Larry Shaw and his colleagues at the Exploratorium, a science museum in San Francisco, California. On March 14, 1988, the museum held the first Pi Day celebration, which included a circular parade and the eating of fruit pies. The date was chosen because it corresponds to the first three digits of pi (3.14).

The Pi Day celebration gradually gained popularity, and in 2009, the US House of Representatives passed a resolution officially recognizing March 14th as National Pi Day. Since then, Pi Day has become a popular holiday for math enthusiasts and has been celebrated in schools and universities around the world with various activities, including pi recitation contests, baking pi-themed pies, and even throwing pi-themed parties.
