John Fogerty - A concert review

John Fogerty

From the set list to the chilling performance of Fogerty's guitar playing, the John Fogerty concert in Saskatoon was a night to remember.

"Up Around the Bend, Green River, Born on the Bayou, Rock and Roll Girls, Who'll Stop the Rain, Lookin' Out My Back Door, Joy of My Life, I Heard It Through the Grapevine, Run Through the Jungle, New Orleans, Keep On Chooglin', Have You Ever Seen the Rain?, Centerfield, The Old Man Down the Road, Fortunate Son, Bad Mood Rising and ending with Proud Mary".

His age, 77, was not evident in his enthusiastic performance of old Creedence Clearwater Revival songs, and a few of his own.

"Centerfield" was a real crowd pleaser with the audience singing together with him. Using multiple guitars, his mastery of the axe is legendary. He mentioned the return of his first guitar, after he gave it away 44 years ago.

Hearty Har, the opening act, featuring sons Shane and Tyler, opened the show on Fogerty’s Travelin' Band Tour. Making it a true family affair, his two sons also played guitar in Fogerty's band. I found Hearty Har to be ok, if a little bit metal-like, though they describe themselves as a psychedelic band. Not knowing any of their songs also didn't help. I couldn't wait until Fogerty came on stage.

The concert was well received by fans and they participated  in the show. Fogarty said,"It's great to be in Saskatoon, and a pleasure to play music for such a wonderful crowd."

I always find it strange that Fogerty and previously CCR ... sound like they have their roots from New Orleans or the deep south, when they hail from California...

Overall it was a very hi energy concert that will be remembered for a long time.
