Charlie, 15 is an out young man who is the object of bullying. His group of friends are kind of misfits. Charlie dumps a boy he was involved with as he started denying that their relationship exists. Charlie then befriends a mate from his home room class.
The story centres around Charlie and Nick, who Charlie isn't sure he is even gay. They have a first kiss and Charlie opens up to Nick and the two start going out. Nick is a perfect boyfriend for Charlie and sticks up for him with Nick's boorish rugby friends.
Through it all, Nick sticks with Charlie. After the first season, it becomes obvious that these two boys were made for each other. On a side note, Nick is still determining his sexuality, is he gay or bisexual? Maybe we'll find that out in season 2!
Overall, I will give Heartstopper two thumbs up as it is really a fantastic show, worth watching by gay or straight alike.
Season one is available on Netflix. Let's hope there is a season 2! Unfortunately that seems an unlikely prospect given the book series it was developed from.
