I rarely buy anything at flea markets.
Nevertheless, I am always in possession of old, strange things because I find them, they find me, or they were already where I moved to.
There have been some special items. but nothing that can compete with what a certain Jessica Roberts purchased at a garage sale and only recently found out what it was.
Her young son had seen the heart and asked Jessica to buy it because he then wanted to give it to her.
And of course she bought it, for a dollar, which I think is pretty cheap.
Later she happened to see this item on Amazon (for 30 euro!) and clicked on it to see what it was.
And it was a mini urn that you can carry small amounts of the ashes of deceased people in.
Jessica was quite shocked and wondered if she should open the thing.
She had used it as a paperweight for years.
Someone advised her to open it because it may also be a picture frame of some sort.
She opened the heart and found a plastic bag full of ashes inside.
When she got over her shock, she posted the "thing" on social media to find the owner.
A local newspaper became aware of the case and wrote an article about it.
And following that, a man came forward to say that the "thing" belonged to his wife's family.
It was part of a family "urn set." I assume that the children "split" the father's ashes or something like that.
It was explained to Jessica that the wife had a partner who had severely abused her and who had simply kept some of her belongings when they separated.
He came, met with Jessica, and picked up the "thing." He wanted to surprise his wife with it.
I think about what I would have done if no one had come forward.
I probably would have buried the thing.
