The Flintstones

The Flintstones

The Flintstones is a popular animated television show that aired from 1960 to 1966. The show was created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, who also created other classic animated series such as Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo, and The Jetsons.

The Flintstones is set in the prehistoric town of Bedrock, and centres around the lives of a working-class family, the Flintstones, and their neighbours, the Rubbles. The show is known for its humorous portrayal of modern-day technology being used in prehistoric times, such as animals being used as household appliances and vehicles.

The show was inspired by the classic sitcom "The Honeymooners," which starred Jackie Gleason as Ralph Kramden and Audrey Meadows as his wife Alice. Hanna and Barbera wanted to create an animated show that would appeal to both children and adults, and drew inspiration from "The Honeymooners" in creating the characters and comedic situations.

The Flintstones was the first prime-time animated television series and was hugely popular during its run, spawning a number of spin-offs, merchandise, and a feature-length film. The show's enduring popularity has made it a cultural icon and it is often referenced in popular culture.

The Flintstones featured a talented cast of voice actors who brought the characters to life. Here are the main voice actors for the show:

  • Fred Flintstone was voiced by actor Alan Reed.

  • Wilma Flintstone was voiced by actress Jean Vander Pyl, who also provided the voice for other characters on the show, including Wilma's mother and several guest characters.

  • Barney Rubble was voiced by actor Mel Blanc, who also provided the voices for other popular characters, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig.

  • Betty Rubble was voiced by actress Bea Benaderet, who also provided the voice for other characters on the show, including Betty's mother and several guest characters.

  • Dino, the Flintstones' pet dinosaur, was voiced by Mel Blanc.

In addition to the main cast, The Flintstones featured a number of guest stars who provided the voices for various characters on the show. Some notable guest stars included Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, Cary Grant, Ann-Margret, and The Beatles.

I remember my youngest sister eating lunch and watching the Flintstones before she had to go back to school. As for me, I remember watching The Friendly Giant. I loved the opening, where he arranged the chairs in front of the hearth. Rusty the Rooster and Jerome the Giraffe also played parts in the show.
