There are currently 12 countries in the world where being gay is against the law and carries a death sentence as a possible penalty:
- Afghanistan
- Brunei
- Iran
- Mauritania
- Nigeria (in some northern states under Islamic law)
- Pakistan (in some provinces under Islamic law)
- Qatar
- Saudi Arabia
- Somalia (in some southern regions under Islamic law)
- Sudan
- United Arab Emirates (UAE)
- Yemen
It is important to note that discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community is not limited to these countries and can occur in various forms and degrees throughout the world. Avoid these countries whether you are gay or not! I am so thankful to live in Canada, where I can be myself!
