Save Our Show

TV Trivia

SAVE OUR SHOW!

In April 2009, the comic spy show Chuck was “on the bubble” with NBC, meaning that its ratings were neither good enough to warrant renewal nor bad enough to warrant cancellation. Its fate was unclear. The Subway sandwich chain was the show’s biggest sponsor, so on April 27, 2009, fans of the show went to their local Subways, bought a sandwich, and put a note in the store’s comment box asking to “Save Chuck!” Home videos of fan gatherings at Subways around the US flooded YouTube. Result: Chuck was renewed, although NBC denied that the sandwich surge had anything to do with the decision.

Q: What aired opposite 1983’s widely watched finale of The Thorn Birds?
A: Fat Albert’s Easter.
