OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Feb. 15, 2015) - Today marks the 50th anniversary of the National Flag of Canada. Since its creation, it has become a powerful symbol of our great country and a source of inspiration and pride for us all.
Over the years, we have seen our flag flying in the world's largest stadiums, being saluted by our troops abroad, displaying its colours at the International Space Station and travelling the vast expanses of Canada's Far North. All of those occasions have allowed us to come together as Canadians and show our joy in being part of the Canadian family. Our Government is pleased to recognize the 50th anniversary of our flag, which continues to symbolize the fulfilment of our dreams and our greatest achievements.
As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, I encourage Canadians to participate in celebrations across the country marking the 50th anniversary of the National Flag of Canada and to take the Share Your Moment With the Flag challenge. Let us take this opportunity to express the pride our flag inspires in us and reflect on all that it represents: a strong, proud and free country, admired and respected around the world.
