LOS ANGELES – Former teen idol Leif Garrett has been sent to jail for 45 days after failing several drug tests while staying in a strict, live-in drug rehabilitation program, authorities said Thursday. Garret began the sentence March 30 after a Superior Court commissioner determined he had violated terms of his rehabilitation program, according to Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the district attorney's office. Garrett, 44, was undergoing drug rehabilitation for violating probation in a cocaine case stemming from a 2004 arrest. After his last progress hearing March 9, Garrett told reporters he had made progress in fighting his drug addiction. “I'm going down the right path,” he said at the time. Commissioner Melissa Widdifield scheduled his next progress hearing for May 11. Garrett also faces felony heroin possession charges after officers who stopped him Jan. 14 for trying to ride a Los Angeles subway train without a ticket said they found suspected narcotics. Garrett has pleaded not guilty in that case.
Boy, did he grow up. Sad.
