18 farms now infected in B.C.'s bird flu zone

Human contact and improperly treated equipment are the most likely causes of the continuing rapid spread of bird flu in B.C.'s lower mainland, officials say.

The outbreak is now affecting 18 poultry farms, said Dr. Brian Evans of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency at a Friday news conference.

As of Thursday, seven farms were identified as being infected with the virus.
