Thoughts on Judge Judy...

The Wizard's FAVOURITE judge!

Judge Judy

Judge Judy was popular for several reasons:

  1. Her no-nonsense attitude: Judge Judy was known for being tough, direct, and not afraid to speak her mind. She didn't tolerate any nonsense in her courtroom and was quick to shut down any behaviour she deemed inappropriate.

  2. Her experience: Judge Judy had years of experience as a family court judge before she started her own television show. Her background in the legal system gave her a deep understanding of the law and how it should be applied in different situations.

  3. Her humour: Despite her tough demeanour, Judge Judy had a quick wit and a sense of humour that made her relatable to many viewers. Her sharp comebacks and sarcastic comments often left audiences laughing.

  4. The cases: Judge Judy's show featured a wide variety of cases, from small claims disputes to family feuds. The cases were often dramatic and entertaining, with colourful characters and unexpected twists.

As for why we miss her so much, it's likely because Judge Judy was a fixture in daytime television for over two decades. Her show was a consistent source of entertainment and her personality and style were unique and memorable. Many viewers grew attached to her and felt like they knew her personally, so it's understandable that her retirement would be felt as a loss.

Speaking about my AIO, How much RAM is necessary these days?

Installed RAM module

The amount of RAM (Random Access Memory) you need in a computer depends on your specific use case and the applications you plan to run. However, here are some general guidelines:

  1. For basic tasks such as web browsing, email, and word processing, 4GB to 8GB of RAM is typically sufficient. This amount of RAM should allow you to run these applications smoothly and without any issues.

  2. For more demanding tasks such as photo or video editing, gaming, or running multiple applications at the same time, 8GB to 16GB of RAM is recommended. This amount of RAM will ensure that your computer can handle these tasks efficiently without slowing down or crashing.

  3. For professional use cases such as 3D modeling, video rendering, or scientific simulations, you may need 32GB or more of RAM. These applications require a lot of processing power and memory to run smoothly and efficiently.

It's worth noting that having more RAM than you need won't necessarily improve your computer's performance. Once you have enough RAM to run your applications smoothly, additional RAM won't make a noticeable difference.

In summary, 4GB to 8GB of RAM is typically sufficient for basic tasks, 8GB to 16GB of RAM is recommended for more demanding tasks, and 32GB or more of RAM may be necessary for professional use cases. The Wizard has 16GB RAM installed and I find that more than enough for my computing tasks.

The All in one computer (AIO)

Elitegroup G24 AIO PC

The Wizard uses an AIO and has been for more than 10 years. I find them to be good looking and fairly easy to add new RAM or SSD hard drives. Mine is a Elitegroup G24 PC with 16 GB RAM and an intel i7 CPU. It works well for me to support Ubuntu MATE, which is installed and even allows me to run virtual machines as well.

An all-in-one computer, as the name suggests, is a computer that combines the components of a traditional desktop computer into a single, integrated device. Here are some potential benefits of using an all-in-one computer:

  1. Space-saving design: All-in-one computers typically have a smaller footprint than traditional desktop computers, as they combine the display, computer, and other components into a single device. This can be especially beneficial if you have limited desk or workspace.

  2. Easy setup: Because all of the components are integrated into a single device, setting up an all-in-one computer is typically easier and faster than setting up a traditional desktop computer. There are fewer cables and components to connect and configure.

  3. Aesthetics: All-in-one computers tend to have a sleek and modern design, which can be more visually appealing than a traditional desktop computer with a separate tower and monitor.

  4. Improved performance: Because all of the components are designed to work together, all-in-one computers can offer improved performance over traditional desktop computers with separate components. This is especially true for all-in-one computers that use high-performance components, such as gaming all-in-one computers.

  5. Portability: Some all-in-one computers are designed to be portable, with a built-in battery and a more lightweight design. This can make them easier to move around or use in different locations.

  6. Built-in peripherals: Many all-in-one computers come with built-in speakers, a webcam, and other peripherals that you would typically need to purchase separately with a traditional desktop computer.

All-in-one computers can be a convenient and space-saving option for those who want a desktop computer with a modern and sleek design. However, they may not be as customizable or upgradable as traditional desktop computers, and they may be more expensive due to their integrated design.

The 411 - Sleep Apnea

Wearing a CPAP device

411Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder in which a person's breathing is repeatedly interrupted during sleep. It can have serious health consequences if left untreated, so it's important to be aware of the symptoms and seek medical attention if you suspect you may have sleep apnea.

Here are some signs and symptoms of sleep apnea:

  • Loud snoring, often with pauses, gasps, or choking sounds
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness or fatigue
  • Morning headaches
  • Restless or fragmented sleep
  • Waking up with a dry mouth or sore throat
  • Difficulty concentrating or memory problems
  • Irritability or mood changes
  • Decreased libido

If you experience any of these symptoms, it's important to talk to your doctor. Your doctor may recommend a sleep study, which involves spending a night in a sleep lab where your breathing, heart rate, and other bodily functions will be monitored.

If left untreated, sleep apnea can increase your risk of developing other health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and depression. It can also worsen existing health conditions, such as asthma, acid reflux, and insomnia.

Additionally, sleep apnea can lead to accidents and injuries due to excessive daytime sleepiness and impaired cognitive function. It can also affect your relationships and overall quality of life.

Fortunately, there are effective treatments for sleep apnea, including continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy, which involves wearing a mask over your nose and/or mouth during sleep to keep your airway open. Other treatments may include lifestyle changes, such as weight loss, avoiding alcohol and sedatives before bedtime, and positional therapy.

In summary, if you suspect you may have sleep apnea, it's important to talk to your doctor and undergo a sleep study if recommended. Sleep apnea can have serious health consequences if left untreated, but effective treatments are available that can improve your quality of life and reduce your risk of developing other health problems.

The Wizard has sleep apnea, and uses a CPAP machine at night. It has not affected by sleep and easily fall asleep wearing one of these machines.

Sleeping with a teddy bear as an adult

Teddy Bear

It's not uncommon for adults to have comfort objects, such as stuffed animals or teddy bears, that they sleep with or keep for emotional support. These objects can provide a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity, and can help individuals feel more relaxed and at ease. The Wizard indeed does sleep with a teddy bear.

While some people may feel embarrassed or ashamed about sleeping with a teddy bear as an adult, it's important to remember that everyone has different ways of coping with stress and anxiety. There is no one right way to manage your emotions or find comfort, and what works for one person may not work for another. I am not embarrassed to mention I sleep with a teddy bear.

In fact, research has shown that engaging in activities that bring us comfort and joy can be beneficial for our mental health and well-being. So, if sleeping with a teddy bear brings you comfort and helps you sleep better at night, there is no reason to feel ashamed or abnormal about it.

Comfort objects like teddy bears can be beneficial for people of all ages, including adults. These objects can help reduce stress and anxiety, promote relaxation and better sleep, and provide a sense of comfort and security.

In fact, studies have shown that hugging or cuddling a soft object like a teddy bear can release oxytocin, a hormone that promotes feelings of calm and relaxation. Additionally, having a familiar object nearby can help individuals feel more grounded and connected to a sense of home, which can be especially helpful for those who travel frequently or live in unfamiliar environments.

It's also worth noting that many people may have attachments to certain objects from childhood, and sleeping with a teddy bear may represent a comforting and nostalgic connection to their past. There is no shame in holding onto sentimental items that bring us joy and comfort.

However, if sleeping with a teddy bear or other comfort object begins to interfere with daily activities, such as social interactions, work, or personal relationships, it may be worth exploring other coping mechanisms or seeking support from a mental health professional.

In summary, sleeping with a teddy bear as an adult is not uncommon and can be a helpful coping mechanism for reducing stress and anxiety. It's important to remember that everyone has different ways of finding comfort and managing emotions, and there is no shame in finding comfort in a teddy bear or other comfort object.

That being said, if sleeping with a teddy bear or other comfort object is causing distress or interfering with daily activities, it may be worth exploring other coping mechanisms or seeking support from a mental health professional.

How to keep your house cool without air conditioning ❄️

Keep on - Keep cool

Keeping your house cool without relying on air conditioning can help reduce energy consumption and save money. Here are 20 ways to achieve a cooler home:

  1. Close your windows and blinds during the hottest part of the day to block out direct sunlight.
  2. Open windows and use cross ventilation in the early morning and evening when temperatures are lower.
  3. Use natural ventilation techniques, such as opening windows on opposite sides of your home to create a breeze.
  4. Install window coverings like blinds, curtains, or reflective films to block out heat from the sun.
  5. Use light-colored or reflective roofing materials to reduce heat absorption.
  6. Plant trees or tall shrubs strategically to shade your home from the sun.
  7. Use fans, especially ceiling fans, to create airflow and circulate cool air throughout the house.
  8. Opt for natural fibers like cotton or linen for bedding and clothing, as they are breathable and allow for better air circulation.
  9. Minimize the use of heat-generating appliances during the day, such as ovens, dryers, and stoves.

The Hospital

a short story

ECT (Shock treatment)

In the early 1900s, there was a hospital in a small town that was notorious for its mistreatment of patients. The hospital was run by a wealthy doctor who was known for his cruel and sadistic treatment of those under his care. Patients were often subjected to inhumane treatments, such as electroshock therapy and experimental surgeries, all in the name of medical progress.

As time went on, rumours began to spread about strange occurrences within the hospital. Patients reported hearing disembodied voices and footsteps, and some even claimed to have seen ghostly apparitions wandering the halls. The hospital staff brushed off these reports as the delusions of mentally ill patients, but the rumours persisted.

One night, a nurse was working the night shift when she heard a strange noise coming from one of the patient rooms. She cautiously approached the room and slowly opened the door, only to find an empty room. As she turned to leave, she heard a faint whisper, "help me."

The nurse was terrified, but she knew she had to investigate further. She began to search the hospital, room by room, until she found a secret passageway hidden behind a bookshelf in the doctor's office. As she entered the passageway, she realized that it led to a secret laboratory where the doctor had been conducting illegal experiments on his patients.

The nurse was horrified as she saw the cruel and inhumane experiments that had been performed on the patients. It was then that she realized that the ghostly apparitions that had been seen wandering the halls were the tortured souls of those who had been subjected to the doctor's twisted experiments.

The nurse immediately reported her findings to the authorities, and the doctor was arrested and charged with numerous crimes. The hospital was shut down, but the strange occurrences within its walls continued for years to come. Even now, some claim to hear the ghostly whispers of the patients who suffered within the hospital's walls, reminding us of the horrors that were once perpetrated there.

Ensuring a tax refund

Tax Refunds guaranteed

Does it make sense to have more than the required tax taken off your paycheck to ensure a refund? The Wizard does this.

It does not necessarily "pay" to have more tax than required taken off your paycheck to ensure a refund at tax time. Essentially, when you have more tax than required taken out of your paycheck, you are giving the government an interest-free loan for the duration of the year, until you receive your tax refund.

If you instead adjusted your tax withholding so that you receive a smaller refund or no refund at all, you would have more money available to you throughout the year to save or invest as you see fit. Additionally, if you have a large refund each year, it may indicate that you are overpaying on your taxes and could adjust your withholding to avoid giving the government an interest-free loan.

It's important to note that everyone's tax situation is unique, and it's important to consult a tax professional or use a reliable tax software to ensure you are properly calculating your tax liability and withholding the correct amount from your paycheck.

When you receive a tax refund, it means that you paid more in taxes throughout the year than you actually owed. This may happen for a variety of reasons, such as overestimating your tax liability, failing to adjust your withholding after a change in your income or deductions, or not taking advantage of available tax credits and deductions.

While receiving a tax refund may feel like a windfall, it's important to remember that you essentially gave the government an interest-free loan for the duration of the year. The money that you overpaid in taxes could have been put to better use if it were available to you throughout the year, such as by paying down debt, investing, or saving for a specific goal.

On the other hand, if you owe taxes when you file your return, you may have to pay interest and penalties on the amount owed if you did not pay enough throughout the year. To avoid this, it's important to ensure that you are withholding the correct amount from your paycheck or making estimated tax payments throughout the year if you are self-employed or have other sources of income that are not subject to withholding.

In summary, while receiving a tax refund may feel like a positive outcome, it may not necessarily be the best financial decision for you. It's important to ensure that you are withholding the correct amount from your paycheck or making estimated tax payments to avoid overpaying or underpaying your taxes. Consulting a tax professional or using reliable tax software can help ensure that you are properly calculating your tax liability and taking advantage of available deductions and credits.

The Wizard used to owe like $2000 to $2500 at tax time, now I get a $2900 or so refund every year. Hmmmmm.

Tropical Fish

Types of Guppies

The Wizard has an aquarium, and is thinking about changing from Goldfish to tropical fish. Below is what I'm thinking of doing as far as my fishkeeping goes.

There are many beautiful tropical freshwater fish that are relatively easy to maintain. Here are some of the most popular ones:

  1. Guppies - Guppies are colourful and vibrant, and they come in a variety of colours and patterns. There are a lot of types of guppies (see illustration above). They are also very easy to care for and are ideal for beginner fish keepers.

  2. Neon Tetras - Neon Tetras are small, vibrant fish with bright blue and red stripes. They are hardy and can adapt to a wide range of water conditions, making them a great choice for beginner fish keepers.

  3. Platy - Platies are colourful, peaceful fish that come in a wide variety of colours and patterns. They are easy to care for and can live in a variety of tank sizes.

  4. Betta Fish - Betta fish, also known as Siamese fighting fish, are known for their striking colours and flowing fins. They are relatively easy to care for and can live in small tanks or bowls.

  5. Swordtails - Swordtails are active and colourful fish that come in a variety of colours and patterns. They are easy to care for and can be kept in community tanks with other peaceful fish.

Ultimately, the best-looking and easiest to maintain tropical freshwater fish will depend on your personal preferences and the specific conditions of your aquarium. It's important to do research and choose fish that are compatible with each other and can thrive in your aquarium environment.

"Short Circuit"

"Short Circuit"

"Short Circuit" is a 1986 American comedy science fiction film directed by John Badham. The film tells the story of Number 5, a military robot who, after being struck by lightning, becomes sentient and embarks on a journey of self-discovery. The movie has a runtime of approximately 98 minutes.

Overall, "Short Circuit" is a fun and entertaining film that successfully blends comedy, action, and science fiction elements. The performances are solid, with standout work from Steve Guttenberg, who plays the film's protagonist, and Ally Sheedy, who plays the love interest.

The film's real star, however, is the robot Number 5, voiced by Tim Blaney. The character is charming, endearing, and provides a great deal of humor throughout the film. The special effects used to bring Number 5 to life are impressive, particularly for the time period in which the film was made.

The movie also explores some interesting themes, such as the nature of consciousness and the ethics of artificial intelligence. However, the film's treatment of the Indian characters has been criticized for perpetuating stereotypes and promoting cultural appropriation.

Fisher Stevens is an American actor, director, and producer. He was born on November 27, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois. Stevens has appeared in numerous films and television shows throughout his career and has won acclaim for his work both in front of and behind the camera.

One of Stevens' most well-known roles is in the 1986 film "Short Circuit," in which he played the character of Ben Jahrvi, a scientist who creates a robot named Johnny 5. However, the casting of Stevens in the role has been controversial due to the fact that he wore makeup to darken his skin and give the appearance of being of South Asian descent, as the character was originally written as an Indian scientist named "Benny" in the script.

In recent years, Stevens has apologized for his decision to play the role in brownface, acknowledging that it was wrong and perpetuated harmful stereotypes. He has also been an advocate for environmental causes and has produced several documentaries on the subject, including the Academy Award-winning "The Cove."

Despite its flaws, "Short Circuit" remains a classic 80s movie that has stood the test of time. It's a fun and enjoyable film that's sure to entertain both children and adults alike. If you're a fan of sci-fi comedies or just looking for a lighthearted movie to watch, then "Short Circuit" is definitely worth checking out.

The 411 - Magnetar

Magnetar

411A magnetar is a type of neutron star, which is an extremely dense and compact object formed from the collapsed core of a massive star. Magnetars are characterized by their extremely strong magnetic fields, which are trillions of times stronger than the Earth's magnetic field.

The magnetic fields of magnetars are so strong that they can affect the properties of matter in their vicinity, causing the emission of high-energy radiation such as X-rays and gamma rays. These emissions can be observed by telescopes and provide scientists with valuable information about the behavior of matter under extreme conditions.

Magnetars are thought to be formed from the collapse of massive stars, and there are currently only a few dozen known magnetars in the Milky Way galaxy. They are among the most powerful objects in the universe, and their extreme magnetic fields make them one of the most fascinating objects in astrophysics.

Magnetars are formed when a massive star undergoes a supernova explosion and collapses. Neutron stars are composed almost entirely of neutrons, with a mass about 1.4 times that of the sun but with a radius of only about 10 kilometers.

What sets magnetars apart from other neutron stars is their incredibly strong magnetic fields. Magnetars have magnetic fields that are hundreds to thousands of times stronger than those of typical neutron stars, with field strengths ranging from about 10^13 to 10^15 Gauss (for comparison, the Earth's magnetic field is about 0.5 Gauss). The origin of these strong magnetic fields is not fully understood, but it is thought to be related to the rapid rotation of the neutron star and the processes that occur during its formation.

The strong magnetic fields of magnetars give rise to a variety of unique and extreme phenomena. One of the most notable is the emission of high-energy radiation, including X-rays and gamma rays. Magnetars are thought to be responsible for a type of gamma-ray burst known as a soft gamma-ray repeater (SGR), which involves a series of intense bursts of X-rays and gamma rays.

Magnetars also exhibit a phenomenon known as "magnetar flares," which are sudden and extremely energetic releases of magnetic energy that can produce gamma-ray bursts, X-ray bursts, and even visible light flashes. These flares can release more energy in a few seconds than the Sun emits in years.

Due to their extreme conditions and unique properties, magnetars are the subject of intense study by astrophysicists. The study of magnetars provides insights into the behavior of matter under the most extreme conditions in the universe and can help us better understand the formation and evolution of neutron stars.

Marcus, on the other hand, sees Will as a father figure and becomes obsessed with spending time with him.

As the story progresses, Will and Marcus's lives become increasingly intertwined. Will begins to learn about responsibility and the importance of relationships, while Marcus begins to find the acceptance and support he needs to overcome his social struggles. The book explores themes such as family, friendship, and the challenges of growing up and finding one's place in the world.

"About a Boy" is a heartwarming and engaging story that shows how even the most unlikely friendships can change lives for the better.

"About a Boy" is a highly entertaining read that manages to be both funny and moving at the same time. It's a book that will make you laugh, but also make you think about the nature of friendship, family, and the importance of connecting with others.

How close is humanity to creating Skynet?

Skynet

Here are some insights based on the current state of AI technology.

While artificial intelligence has made remarkable progress in recent years, we are still far from creating a version of Skynet or any other kind of emergent AI that can take over the world.

Currently, AI systems are designed and programmed by humans with specific tasks and objectives in mind, and they can only operate within the limitations and parameters set by their creators. While some AI systems can learn and improve their performance over time through machine learning, they are still ultimately dependent on human oversight and control.

That being said, it's important for us to continue monitoring and regulating the development of AI technology to ensure that it remains safe and beneficial for humanity. The potential risks and benefits of AI should be carefully considered, and safeguards should be put in place to prevent any negative consequences.

As with any rapidly advancing technology, there are potential risks and benefits associated with the progress in AI. While AI has the potential to revolutionize many fields and improve our lives in numerous ways, there are also concerns about its impact on jobs, privacy, security, and even the potential for unintended consequences.

It's important to be aware of the potential risks and benefits of AI and to take steps to mitigate any negative consequences. This includes developing responsible AI strategies, ensuring transparency and accountability in AI development and deployment, and investing in research and education to address the ethical, legal, and societal implications of AI.

However, it's also important not to succumb to fear or panic about the potential dangers of AI. Instead, we should approach AI with a balanced and proactive mindset, working to maximize its potential benefits while minimizing its potential risks. This will require ongoing collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and the broader public to ensure that AI is developed and used in a responsible and ethical manner.

Skynet is a fictional AI system from the Terminator movie franchise, which becomes self-aware and decides to launch a global war against humanity. While it is not possible to create an exact replica of Skynet, it is theoretically possible to create an AI system that could cause harm to humans if it is not designed and programmed properly.

However, the development of such an AI system would require intentional and deliberate efforts to create a system that operates outside of human control and with a desire to cause harm. This is not in line with current best practices for AI development, which emphasize transparency, accountability, and safety.

Moreover, the development of advanced AI systems involves multiple layers of testing and oversight to ensure that they operate within safe and ethical boundaries. AI researchers and developers are also working to develop techniques to ensure that AI systems are transparent, explainable, and accountable, which will help to prevent unintended consequences.

Overall, while it's important to be mindful of the potential risks of AI, the development of a system like Skynet is not a likely or desirable outcome of current AI research and development.

Elon Musk - Hero or Zero?

Elon Musk

Elon Musk is a billionaire entrepreneur and innovator who has made significant contributions to various fields, including technology, energy, transportation, and space exploration. Here are some of his most notable accomplishments:

  1. Co-founder of PayPal: In 1999, Musk co-founded PayPal, an online payment system that revolutionized the way people conduct financial transactions over the internet.

  2. Tesla Motors: In 2004, Musk co-founded Tesla Motors, a company that designs and manufactures electric vehicles. Tesla has been credited with bringing electric cars into the mainstream, and its vehicles have won numerous awards for their performance, design, and sustainability.

  3. SpaceX: In 2002, Musk founded SpaceX, a private space exploration company that aims to reduce the cost of space travel and eventually colonize Mars. In 2020, SpaceX became the first private company to send astronauts to the International Space Station.

  4. SolarCity: In 2006, Musk co-founded SolarCity, a company that designs and installs solar energy systems for residential and commercial customers. SolarCity has helped to increase the adoption of renewable energy sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

  5. Hyperloop: In 2013, Musk proposed the concept of the Hyperloop, a high-speed transportation system that would use vacuum-sealed tubes to transport people and goods at speeds of up to 700 miles per hour. Although Musk is not directly involved in the development of Hyperloop technology, his proposal has sparked interest and investment in the concept.

  6. OpenAI: In 2015, Musk co-founded OpenAI, a research organization that aims to promote the safe and beneficial development of artificial intelligence. OpenAI has made significant contributions to the field of machine learning and has developed advanced language models like GPT-3.

  7. Neuralink: In 2016, Musk founded Neuralink, a company that is developing technology to interface directly with the human brain. The goal of Neuralink is to create a high-bandwidth, implantable brain-computer interface that could improve human cognitive abilities and treat neurological disorders.

Elon Musk

In addition to his entrepreneurial ventures, Musk has been a vocal advocate for renewable energy, sustainable transportation, and the advancement of science and technology. He has received numerous awards and accolades for his work, including the Royal Aeronautical Society's Gold Medal, the Heinlein Prize for Advances in Space Commercialization, and the Robert A. Heinlein Memorial Award.

While Elon Musk has a large following and is generally viewed as a successful entrepreneur and innovator, there are also some people who hold negative views of him. Some of the reasons why people may dislike or even hate Elon Musk include:

  1. Perception of arrogance: Some people find Musk's public persona and communication style to be arrogant, condescending, or dismissive. Musk has been known to engage in public spats with critics and journalists on social media, which can turn off some people.

  2. Treatment of workers: Some critics have accused Musk's companies, particularly Tesla, of mistreating workers or prioritizing production over employee well-being. In 2018, Tesla faced lawsuits and investigations over alleged workplace safety violations and discrimination.

  3. Impact on the environment: While Musk is a vocal advocate for sustainable energy and transportation, some people question whether his companies' practices actually align with these values. For example, Tesla has faced criticism over its use of rare earth metals in its batteries, which can have negative environmental impacts.

  4. Controversial statements: Musk has made a number of controversial statements over the years, including comments about pedophilia, COVID-19, and labor unions. Some people find these statements offensive or inappropriate.

  5. Business practices: Musk's companies have faced criticism over various business practices, including aggressive expansion, high turnover rates, and controversial financial decisions. Some people view Musk as prioritizing his own interests over those of his employees or customers.

It's important to note that not everyone who dislikes Elon Musk does so for the same reasons, and some of these criticisms may be more valid or significant than others. At the same time, it's worth recognizing that Musk has also made significant contributions to a number of industries and has many supporters who view him as an innovative and inspiring leader.

So, in the Wizard's eyes, Elon Musk is definitely a hero.

Sucralose - Pros and Cons

Sucralose

The Wizard has recently started buying and drinking flavoured sparkling water that is sweetened with sucralose. Splenda is one brand of bulk packages of sucralose. Great for my diabetes, but had me wondering about the safety of sucralose. Here are the pros and cons I found researching it.

Sucralose is a zero-calorie artificial sweetener that is commonly used in a variety of food and beverage products, including pop and soda. Here are some potential pros and cons of using sucralose as a sweetener in these drinks:

Pros:

  1. Low calorie: Sucralose is a zero-calorie sweetener, which means it can help reduce the overall calorie content of soda and pop.

  2. No effect on blood sugar: Sucralose does not affect blood sugar levels, making it a suitable sweetener for people with diabetes or those who are watching their blood sugar levels.

  3. High sweetness intensity: Sucralose is several times sweeter than sugar, which means that less of it can be used to achieve the same level of sweetness, resulting in fewer calories per serving.

  4. Heat stable: Sucralose is heat-stable, which means that it can be used in hot beverages and in baking without losing its sweetness.

  5. Safe: Sucralose has been approved as safe for human consumption by numerous regulatory bodies around the world, including the FDA in the US, Health Canada, and the European Food Safety Authority.

Cons:

  1. Artificial taste: Some people may find that sucralose has a slightly artificial taste compared to sugar or other natural sweeteners, which can affect the overall taste of soda and pop.

  2. Limited availability: Some people may have difficulty finding soda and pop that are sweetened with sucralose, as it is not as widely used as other sweeteners like sugar and high-fructose corn syrup.

  3. Possible digestive issues: Some people may experience digestive issues like bloating or gas after consuming products containing sucralose, although these side effects are generally mild and rare.

  4. Environmental concerns: The production of sucralose can be environmentally intensive, and there are concerns about the long-term environmental impact of its production and disposal.

  5. Questionable health effects: While sucralose has been approved as safe for human consumption, some studies have raised concerns about potential health effects, including changes in gut bacteria and increased risk of certain cancers. However, more research is needed to fully understand the long-term health effects of sucralose consumption.

Sucralose can be a useful sweetener for reducing the calorie content of soda and pop while still maintaining sweetness. However, as with any artificial sweetener, it is important to be aware of potential drawbacks and to consume it in moderation as part of a balanced diet.

Tina Turner's tumultuous life

Tina Turner, born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in Nutbush, Tennessee, is a legendary singer, songwriter, and actress. While she had a remarkable career, she also endured a deeply troubled and abusive relationship with her former husband, Ike Turner.

Tina Turner met Ike Turner in 1957 when she was just 17 years old. At the time,

Ike and Tina Turner

Ike Turner was already an established musician and bandleader. They formed a professional and personal relationship, and Tina joined Ike's band, the Kings of Rhythm, as a backup singer. Eventually, Tina's talent and stage presence took centre stage, and the duo became known as Ike & Tina Turner.

However, behind the scenes, Tina endured years of physical, emotional, and psychological abuse at the hands of Ike Turner. Their relationship was marked by violence, controlling behaviour, and frequent outbursts of anger from Ike. Tina often faced physical beatings, which left her with severe injuries. Despite the abuse, Tina continued to perform alongside Ike, and their fame grew throughout the 1960s with hits like "River Deep - Mountain High" and "Proud Mary."

Tina eventually found the courage to leave the abusive relationship in July 1976. After escaping with only 36 cents and a Mobil credit card, she filed for divorce, and the marriage was officially dissolved in 1978. Leaving behind her troubled past, Tina embarked on a successful solo career, starting with her 1984 album "Private Dancer," which became a massive success.

In her autobiography, "I, Tina," published in 1986, Tina Turner courageously opened up about her experiences of abuse and the immense struggle she faced to rebuild her life. Her story inspired countless survivors of domestic violence and shed light on the issue.

Throughout her solo career, Tina Turner achieved remarkable success, earning numerous awards and accolades. Her powerful voice, electrifying stage presence, and hit songs like "What's Love Got to Do with It" and "Simply the Best" solidified her status as a music icon.

Tina Turner's life after leaving Ike Turner's abusive relationship became a testament to her resilience, strength, and determination. She remarried in 2013 to German music executive Erwin Bach and continues to be an inspiration to many, both through her music and her triumph over adversity.
