Known as the most festive and musical city in Brazil, Salvador da Bahia celebrates more than 20 festivals and processions a year that blend Catholic and Afro Brazilian Candomblé traditions. Today begins the eight-day Lavagem da Igreja do Bonfim celebration, which kicks off with local women dressed in white washing the church steps, symbolically cleansing away sins.
