Comment on The Arizona Jail

These comments made some very pertinent points about the post on the pink boxer sheriff, so I decided to post them as well:

***Yeah, he's doing a lot to address the reasons why people end up going to jail in the first place...like poverty, unemployment, unequal education opportunities, rampant sexism and racism, just to name a few.

Other than aversion, which has been proven to be an abysmal failure throughout the history of corrections, he is doing nothing to help the people who are actually under his care (let's not forget, they are a very controlled population and it's extremely easy to violate their civil rights - let's also not forget that they actually have those rights) to not end up in someone else's prison. the only change he's creating is creating more mean, bitter and angry people.

As to the soldiers...they volunteered with full knowledge of what they were stepping into. Prisoners don't.

I think that sheriff joe is one step away from Stalin. The only thing that keeps him from getting all the way there is the A.C.L.U. keeping their very beady eyes on him. Dykewife

***It has been proven many times that treating people in jails badly has no positive effect on the crime rate, all it does is put even more bitter people back on the street when they get out. The simple fact that the USA has the highest number of incarcerated people in the world and still has the highest crime rate on the free world is proof enough. Erwin
