ORIGINAL JOE'S® - a review

Original Joe's Coming soon to Saskatoon!
ORIGINAL JOE'S® NOW OPEN 1515 - 8th Street E in Saskatoon!

My partner and I went to the new ORIGINAL JOE'S® for supper tonight. We were very surprised at what they have done as far as renovations go - this was a Burger King® after all... It is a warm earth-toned atmosphere, with 4 flat panel TV's playing hockey (Stanley Cup, ya know!) The decor is extremely plain - but works! There are large dividers between the various sections of the Restaurant. The chairs are comfortable and the noise level, while noticeable - still allowed for quiet conversation.

We were greeted quickly as we came in and told to sit where ever we wanted. We chose the 'upper deck', a slightly raised area. - I should note at this point that even though the Saskatoon ORIGINAL JOE'S® was supposed to be a family restaurant, at this location - they have chosen to make it their traditional Restaurant & Bar. Thus - no minors admitted. We sat for a while before we noticed that a couple of others in the same section were greeted by staff, and we were completely ignored. Once we got their attention, the service was excellent. I'll chalk that up to new in-experienced staff.

Original Joe's Steak Sandwich

I had the 8 oz. Steak sandwich (medium rare), served on garlic Texas Toast, and the way JOE'S works, you get to choose any 2 sides from their list. I chose Sweet Potato French Fries with their 'Dilly sauce'. <<--EXCELLENT!, and a ceaser salad. The lettuce was crisp and fresh. The steak very tender, cooked just the way I like.

My partner ordered the Broadway Beef Dip and was impressed with the amunt of roast beef in it as well as the taste. He ordered mango pasta salad and honey slaw as his sides.

They come around with Fresh Ground Pepper, which is a nice touch.

The bathroom was supremely clean- designed very well, with touchless papertowel dispenser, or your choice of a cyclone strength hand dryer along with anti-bacterial soap. In this day and age, however the absence of an auto-flush urinal is an oversight.

We really enjoyed the taste and experience and The Wizard rates ORIGINAL JOE'S®:
Thumbs Up!Thumbs Up!Thumbs Up!Thumbs Up!

The tally:

1 - 8 oz Steak Sandwich $13.99 (+ .99 for mushrooms + $1.99 for the Sweet Potato Fries<--worth it! - other sides are no extra charge) 1 - Beef Dip $10.99 1 - coffee $2.25 1 - Coke $2.75 Total with tax $34.61 -->Not at all bad considering the portions of the food. The prices are similar to Denny's, but with better food and service!

I think I have my eye on the 18 oz Porterhouse ($24.99) on one of my next visits!
