The saxophone was named after a man whose last name was Sax






The saxophone is named after its Belgian-French inventor, Antoine-Joseph (also known as Adolphe) Sax. He presented his new instrument in Paris during the early 1840s, had it patented in 1846, and was eventually appointed instructor of the saxophone at the Paris Conservatory.
